The Business Development Officer position at Axxela provides analytical and administrative support to the Business Development Unit. The role involves conducting analytical tasks to support project initiation, engineering, and construction services management related to business development efforts in the gas and power sectors. The Business Development Officer will also perform technical and analytical research on energy usage trends in the Nigerian market and other relevant economies, assessing natural gas and electricity demand, power costs, rates, potential revenues, margins, and profits, as well as evaluating the overall viability of individual transactions and projects.

Scope of Responsibilities for the Role:
Develops a good understanding of the fundamental drivers of business value creation within the power industry/business, and within the context of Axxela Limited.
Conducts technical and analytical research/studies on energy usage trends in the Nigerian market and other relevant economies; prepares company, industry, competitor, and economic outlook analytical reports and briefing notes.
Summarizes research findings to support decision-making efforts.
Uses relevant data on solar (and other renewable energy forms), electricity demand, power costs, equipment costs, rates, etc., to develop basic/fundamental assumptions for financial models, including determining/capturing the required capital structures for potential transactions based on underlying business assumptions.
Analyzes data on potential revenues, margins, profits, etc., to draw insights into current and potential business issues and opportunities; makes appropriate recommendations for business structure, contracts, and various deals/business transactions.
Supports the Business Development Unit in preparing and presenting proposals/pitches and bid submissions to close new deals and prospects.
Delivers basic internal presentations on solar, other renewable energies, and general power business, as well as other relevant matters.
Conducts detailed solution design for solar power plants and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to ensure optimal proposals for potential customers.
Collaborates with the BDM and Project Delivery Team to develop, plan, and cost the installation and commissioning requirements and processes for solar and BESS solutions.
Develops specifications, evaluates vendors, and works with relevant internal teams (Procurement, etc.) to oversee the procurement of solar and BESS components to ensure cost-effective and high-quality project execution.
Performs technical assessments and develops comprehensive financial models that integrate project design findings to evaluate project feasibility and profitability.
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, including project teams, clients, and regulatory bodies, to facilitate seamless project execution and alignment with business objectives.
Builds and maintains business relationships with industry and government stakeholders.
Stays up to date with industry, market, and customer developments, such as economic changes in relevant countries, political events, regulatory changes, and customer business growth, which impact their energy requirements. These insights help estimate demand and supply forecasts for future business growth.
Provides adequate and effective project administration by developing action plans and work schedules to meet job objectives; interprets work briefs, provides progress reporting, and highlights constraints, opportunities, and risks. Interfaces with other functions (finance, project delivery, legal, EHSQ, technical/engineering, procurement, etc.) as needed to ensure the successful execution of projects.
Supports the execution of strategy and process analysis frameworks with assistance.
Performs other duties as assigned by the BDM and/or the Head of Business Development from time to time.
Requirements
1st degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, Economics or other numerate discipline.
Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in relevant functional areas such as Business Development, Operations and Sales/Marketing, preferably in an International Energy Company
Understanding of basic finance principles, solar power economics and opportunity maturation, and demonstrated technical skills in financial analysis and modelling are critical.
