    Protection Officer

    About The Job

    • The Protection Officer supports the identification, prevention, and response to protection risks affecting vulnerable individuals and communities. The role involves providing case management support and referrals, facilitating awareness and sensitization sessions, monitoring protection concerns (including GBV, child protection, and risks faced by displaced populations), and promoting safety, dignity, and access to essential services. The officer works closely with community structures and partners to strengthen protective environments and accountability mechanisms.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Identify and monitor protection risks affecting vulnerable individuals and communities.
    • Provide protection case management support and facilitate timely referrals in line with SOPs.
    • Support awareness, sensitization, and community engagement sessions on protection issues.
    • Monitor and document protection concerns including GBV, child protection, and displacement-related risks.
    • Engage with community leaders, protection committees, and other community structures.
    • Coordinate with service providers and partners to ensure comprehensive protection responses.
    • Support the implementation of accountability and complaint and feedback mechanisms (CFM).
    • Ensure confidentiality, survivor-centered approaches, and data protection at all times.
    • Prepare timely and accurate protection activity reports.
    • Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and protective environment for affected populations.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in protection or humanitarian programming.
    • Experience working with displaced or vulnerable populations is an advantage.
    • Knowledge of protection principles, GBV, child protection, and referral pathways.
    • Fluency in English and the ability to speak and understand local language(s).

    Required Skills & Competencies

    • Strong understanding of humanitarian and protection principles.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
    • Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
    • Strong documentation and reporting skills.
    • Willingness to work in challenging field environments.

    • Commitment to safeguarding, PSEA, child protection, and accountability principles.
    • Zero tolerance for exploitation, abuse, harassment, or discrimination.
