    Gender and Protection Project Manager

    Reports to: Executive Director
    Supervises: Protection Coordinators 

    Position Summary

    The Gender and Protection Project Manager leads the development, implementation, and coordination of gender equality, protection, and GBV (Gender-Based Violence) interventions across GAEFI’s project areas. The role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality protection services, safeguarding standards, case management oversight, and gender mainstreaming across all organizational programs.

    This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders in humanitarian and development settings.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Leadership & Implementation

    • Lead the design and execution of gender, protection, and GBV program strategies.
    • Oversee protection activities including case management, psychosocial support, referrals, and protection monitoring.
    • Ensure compliance with global protection standards including IASC, GBVIMS, PSEA, safeguarding, and ethical case management.
    • Integrate gender equality and protection mainstreaming across all project sectors.
    • Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and protection analysis to guide programming.

    Capacity Building & Technical Support

    • Provide training to staff, volunteers, partners, and community groups on gender, protection, safeguarding, and GBV prevention.
    • Mentor and supervise protection officers and case workers to ensure quality service delivery.
    • Develop tools, guidelines, and SOPs to strengthen program effectiveness.

     

    3. Coordination & Representation

    • Represent GAEFI in gender, protection, GBV, child protection, and safeguarding coordination platforms.
    • Build strong partnerships with government ministries (e.g., Ministry of Women Affairs), UN agencies, INGOs, and community-based organizations.
    • Coordinate referral pathways, case conferencing, and inter-agency response for at-risk individuals.

    Accountability, Monitoring & Reporting

    • Work with MEAL teams to ensure quality data collection, analysis, documentation, and learning.
    • Ensure accountability mechanisms (CFM, feedback sessions, community protection committees) are functional and accessible.
    • Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and donor-required reports.
    • Document success stories, case studies, and lessons learned on protection and gender programming.

    Safeguarding Compliance

    • Serve as a safeguarding focal point at state level.
    • Ensure compliance with PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards.
    • Promote safe programming, confidentiality, and ethical conduct across all activities.
    • Ensure staff and volunteers adhere to GAEFI’s Code of Conduct.

    Qualifications & Experience

    Required

    • BSc. in Gender Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Human Rights, or related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
    • Minimum 4–6 years of experience in gender, protection, or GBV-related roles within humanitarian or development contexts.
    • Strong knowledge of protection principles, case management standards, GBV prevention/response, and safeguarding.
    • Experience working with vulnerable groups including women, girls, children, persons with disabilities, and displaced populations.
    • Demonstrated experience in team leadership, coordination, reporting, and partner engagement.

    Technical Advantage

    • Training in PSEA, Child Safeguarding, GBVIMS, or Protection Case Management.
    • Knowledge of national gender and protection frameworks.
    • Experience working with donor-funded projects (UNFPA, UNICEF, UNHCR, OCHA, etc.).

    Skills & Competencies

    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
    • Ability to lead and supervise diverse teams effectively.
    • Excellent report writing, documentation, and presentation skills.
    • High emotional intelligence and cultural sensitivity.
    • Ability to work under pressure and within challenging environments.
    • Strong advocacy, negotiation, and community engagement skills.
