    Climate and Biodiversity Officer

    Reports to: State Program Manager 
    Supervises: Project Assistants

    Position Summary

    The Climate and Biodiversity Officer will lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of environmental sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience initiatives across GAEFI project locations. The role focuses on supporting community-driven climate adaptation, environmental awareness, ecosystem protection, and integration of climate-smart practices into ongoing programs.

    This role is ideal for individuals passionate about environmental protection, climate action, and community resilience.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Design & Implementation

    • Lead the design and rollout of climate change adaptation, mitigation, and biodiversity conservation initiatives.
    • Conduct environmental and climate vulnerability assessments in target communities.
    • Promote ecosystem conservation practices, land restoration, and natural resource management.
    • Support climate-smart agriculture, water conservation, and sustainable livelihood activities.
    • Facilitate the establishment of community climate action groups or environmental committees.

    Training, Awareness & Community Engagement

    • Train community members on climate resilience, environmental sustainability, and biodiversity protection.
    • Lead awareness campaigns on deforestation, waste management, pollution control, and conservation.
    • Engage local leaders, youths, women groups, and schools in environmental interventions.

    Monitoring, Reporting & Learning

    • Track project progress, indicators, and activity outcomes using approved tools.
    • Document lessons learned, success stories, and impacts of climate interventions.
    • Prepare high-quality monthly, quarterly, and donor reports.
    • Work closely with MEAL teams to ensure strong data collection and accountability.

    Coordination & Partnership

    • Collaborate with state environmental agencies, community groups, local NGOs, and international partners.
    • Represent GAEFI in environmental and climate-related working groups or coordination forums.
    • Support proposal development related to climate change, environment, or community resilience.

    Compliance & Safeguarding

    • Ensure activities align with national environmental regulations and donor requirements.
    • Integrate protection, gender inclusion, climate-risk sensitivity, and Do-No-Harm principles into all activities.
    • Ensure beneficiary safety, ethical standards, and reporting of safeguarding concerns.

    Qualifications & Experience

    Required

    • BSc. in Environmental Science, Climate Studies, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, B.Sc. Biology, Public Health or related field.
    • Minimum 3–5 years experience in environment, climate change, biodiversity, or resilience projects.
    • Strong knowledge of climate adaptation, conservation approaches, and environmental sustainability.
    • Experience engaging communities and delivering training sessions.
    • Familiarity with environmental assessments, field data collection, and reporting.
    • Proficiency in English and local languages (Hausa/Kanuri preferred).
    • Ability to travel regularly to field locations.

    Added Advantage

    • Experience working with NGOs or donor-funded projects.
    • Technical knowledge in GIS mapping, ecological surveys, or climate-risk analysis.
    • Experience with climate-smart agriculture and natural resource management.

    Gender and Protection Project Manager

    Reports to: Executive Director
    Supervises: Protection Coordinators 

    Position Summary

    The Gender and Protection Project Manager leads the development, implementation, and coordination of gender equality, protection, and GBV (Gender-Based Violence) interventions across GAEFI’s project areas. The role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality protection services, safeguarding standards, case management oversight, and gender mainstreaming across all organizational programs.

    This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders in humanitarian and development settings.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Leadership & Implementation

    • Lead the design and execution of gender, protection, and GBV program strategies.
    • Oversee protection activities including case management, psychosocial support, referrals, and protection monitoring.
    • Ensure compliance with global protection standards including IASC, GBVIMS, PSEA, safeguarding, and ethical case management.
    • Integrate gender equality and protection mainstreaming across all project sectors.
    • Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and protection analysis to guide programming.

    Capacity Building & Technical Support

    • Provide training to staff, volunteers, partners, and community groups on gender, protection, safeguarding, and GBV prevention.
    • Mentor and supervise protection officers and case workers to ensure quality service delivery.
    • Develop tools, guidelines, and SOPs to strengthen program effectiveness.

     

    3. Coordination & Representation

    • Represent GAEFI in gender, protection, GBV, child protection, and safeguarding coordination platforms.
    • Build strong partnerships with government ministries (e.g., Ministry of Women Affairs), UN agencies, INGOs, and community-based organizations.
    • Coordinate referral pathways, case conferencing, and inter-agency response for at-risk individuals.

    Accountability, Monitoring & Reporting

    • Work with MEAL teams to ensure quality data collection, analysis, documentation, and learning.
    • Ensure accountability mechanisms (CFM, feedback sessions, community protection committees) are functional and accessible.
    • Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and donor-required reports.
    • Document success stories, case studies, and lessons learned on protection and gender programming.

    Safeguarding Compliance

    • Serve as a safeguarding focal point at state level.
    • Ensure compliance with PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards.
    • Promote safe programming, confidentiality, and ethical conduct across all activities.
    • Ensure staff and volunteers adhere to GAEFI’s Code of Conduct.

    Qualifications & Experience

    Required

    • BSc. in Gender Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Human Rights, or related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
    • Minimum 4–6 years of experience in gender, protection, or GBV-related roles within humanitarian or development contexts.
    • Strong knowledge of protection principles, case management standards, GBV prevention/response, and safeguarding.
    • Experience working with vulnerable groups including women, girls, children, persons with disabilities, and displaced populations.
    • Demonstrated experience in team leadership, coordination, reporting, and partner engagement.

    Technical Advantage

    • Training in PSEA, Child Safeguarding, GBVIMS, or Protection Case Management.
    • Knowledge of national gender and protection frameworks.
    • Experience working with donor-funded projects (UNFPA, UNICEF, UNHCR, OCHA, etc.).

    State Program Manager

    Position Summary

    The State Program Manager will provide overall leadership, coordination, and management of GAEFI’s programs within the assigned state. The role is responsible for strategic planning, program implementation, staff supervision, stakeholder engagement, budget oversight, and ensuring quality and accountability across all interventions.

    The position requires strong management experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to coordinate multi-sectoral humanitarian and development activities in challenging operational environments.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Program Leadership & Management

    • Provide strategic direction for all program activities at state level in line with GAEFI’s mission, donor requirements, and organizational priorities.
    • Lead planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of all projects within the state.
    • Ensure timely delivery of project activities, outputs, and indicators as per approved workplans.
    • Supervise state program teams and ensure high standards of performance, accountability, and teamwork.

     

    2. Coordination & Representation

    • Represent GAEFI at state-level coordination forums, including clusters, government meetings, partner platforms, and donor engagements.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with government authorities, community leaders, UN agencies, INGOs/NGOs, and other key stakeholders.
    • Strengthen collaboration between GAEFI and local partners to ensure effective service delivery and community engagement.

     

    3. Program Quality, MEAL & Reporting

    • Ensure all program activities adhere to organizational standards, donor guidelines, and humanitarian principles.
    • Work closely with the MEAL team to ensure proper monitoring, data collection, learning, and reporting.
    • Support quality assurance through regular field visits, activity supervision, and implementation of corrective actions.
    • Prepare and submit high-quality weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.

     

    4. Financial & Resource Management

    • Oversee state-level budgets, expenditures, and financial planning in coordination with the Finance department.
    • Ensure compliance with donor regulations and internal financial policies.
    • Monitor efficient use of resources and support procurement processes at the state level.

     

    5. Staff Management & Capacity Building

    • Lead, mentor, and supervise state-level project staff and volunteers.
    • Conduct regular team meetings, performance reviews, and staff development plans.
    • Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive working environment aligned with safeguarding principles.

     

    6. Community Engagement & Accountability

    • Ensure meaningful community participation in all phases of the project cycle.
    • Strengthen accountability mechanisms (CFM, feedback sessions, community dialogues).
    • Promote gender inclusion, protection mainstreaming, and conflict sensitivity across all interventions.

    • Effective execution of project activities according to workplans and donor requirements.

    • Ensuring all programs meet quality standards, safeguarding policies, MEAL requirements, and humanitarian principles.

    • Timely submission of accurate reports, data, success stories, and documentation.

    Leadership & Coordination

    • Maintaining strong partnerships with government, partners, and community stakeholders.

    Financial Stewardship

    • Efficient budget management, compliance, and proper use of program resources.

     

    Qualifications & Experience

    Minimum Requirements

    • BSc. in Social Sciences, Public Health, Development Studies, Management, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
    • Minimum of 5–6 years experience in humanitarian or development program management.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills.
    • Experience managing donor-funded projects (UN, INGOs, foundation grants, etc.).
    • Solid understanding of project cycle management, MEAL, budgeting, and reporting.
    • Demonstrated ability to work in insecure or hard-to-reach areas.
    • Excellent communication, representation, and problem-solving skills.
    • Fluency in English and local languages is an added advantage.
