Job Purpose
The Programme Intern/Volunteer will support the programme and grants teams with project implementation, documentation, research, reporting, and proposal development. The role aims to enhance the quality and effectiveness of Alert’s interventions across Nigeria.
Duties and Responsibilities
Project Implementation Support
- Support planning and delivery of project activities, trainings, workshops, and community engagements.
- Assist fieldwork preparations, stakeholder consultations, and event coordination.
- Help collect, compile, and document project data, success stories, and lessons learned.
- Contribute to activity reports and follow-up documentation.
- Provide logistics and administrative support during project events.
Grants and Compliance Support
- Help track grant deliverables, reporting timelines, and donor compliance requirements.
- Assist in preparing narrative and financial documentation for reporting.
- Support proper filing, documentation, and record-keeping for grants.
- Follow up with partners for reports, supporting documents, and compliance-related updates.
Proposal Development & Research
- Conduct desk research on donor priorities, thematic areas, and context analyses.
- Assist in drafting, editing, and formatting concept notes and proposals.
- Support development of annexes such as workplans, results frameworks, and risk assessments.
- Assist coordination of inputs during proposal development processes.
Communications & Documentation
- Support development of briefs, presentations, and knowledge products.
- Assist in maintaining internal trackers, databases, and documentation platforms.
- Help gather visibility materials and document project achievements.
Administrative and Coordination Support
- Assist in scheduling and supporting internal and external meetings.
- Take meeting minutes and track action points.
- Coordinate with MEL, finance, and programme teams for routine tasks.
Travel requirements
- The position is based in Abuja city with little or no travel requirements
Learning Opportunities

Required Qualifications and Skills
- University degree or ongoing studies in Peace and Conflict Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Political Science, Environmental Studies, or related fields.
- Strong writing, analytical, and organisational skills.
- Ability to conduct research and synthesise information.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated interest in development, governance, climate resilience, or peacebuilding.

Stipend and Indemnity
- No stipend, allowance, or financial remuneration will be provided.
- International Alert will not cover indemnities, medical costs, personal insurance, or liabilities incurred during the internship.
- Interns/volunteers are responsible for their personal expenses, transportation, insurance, and any associated costs.
