    Communications Assistant

    Job Summary

    Under the supervision of the Project Director, and  a technical reporting line to the  National Communication and Advocacy Officer, the Communication Assistant will support the planning, development, and implementation of internal and external communication strategies for the ECHO project. Based full-time in Sokoto, S/He will be involved in producing content, managing communication channels, and ensuring visibility of the project’s goals, activities, and impact to diverse stakeholders including beneficiaries, donors, and partners.

    Key Responsibilities of the position

    Role/Mission

    • Assist in developing and implementing a communication strategy for the ECHO project.
    • Draft and edit communication materials such as press releases, newsletters, case studies, social media content, and human-interest stories.
    • Support documentation of project activities through photography, video, and written content.
    • Liaise with field staff to gather content and success stories from project sites.
    • Ensure branding and visibility guidelines of the donor and organization are adhered to in all communication outputs.
    • Support the update of JRS communication channels (website, social media, newsletters) with ECHO related content.
    • Assist in organizing and covering project-related events, trainings, and campaigns.
    • Support the monitoring and evaluation team by producing communication materials from collected data (infographics, reports summaries).

    Required Profile 

    Qualification

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Education, International Development, or related field.  
    • Professional / Work Experience:  At least 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in a humanitarian or education-focused organization

    Experience and Skills

    • Proven experience in writing, editing, and content creation (samples may be requested).
    • Familiarity with Education in Emergencies, humanitarian principles, and the needs of affected populations.
    • Experience with photo and video editing softwares.
    • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

    Languages:

    • Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
    • Fluency in Hausa (written and spoken).

    • Strong writing and storytelling skills
    • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
    • Cultural sensitivity and understanding of humanitarian contexts.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

    Preference will be given to qualified indigenes of Sokoto State.
