    Nutrition Officer

    Project Implementation

    • Provide lifesaving quality Health care and Nutrition services to the conflict affected individuals in Bama and Gwoza    LGA’s during the 2023 Lean season. From July 2023 to December 2023. Tom brown approach will be used for nutrition program in Gwoza LGA only.

    Job Summary

    • The Nutrition Officer will be the overall manager of the program providing both administrative, leadership and technical support to the staff.
    • The Nutrition Officer will be directly responsible for the implementation of the emergency nutrition programming including integrated community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), MAM treatment using Tom Brown approach, Maternal infant, and young child feeding (MIYCF), Nutrition surveillance, coordination, and overall programme management.

    Main Duties & Responsibilities

    • Conduct/update situation analysis of the nutrition situation for the development, design, and management of nutrition related programs/projects.
    • Update tracking tool to monitor programme screening based data on acute malnutrition, collect health facility-based disease surveillance reports and update morbidity reporting tool for assigned health facilities/LGAs.
    • Participate with M&E team in supervision of data collection for nutrition and health assessments.
    • Liaise with nutrition and health assistants for accessing community support group database, health facility database on a regular basis and updating overall health facility-based activities.
    • Conduct ongoing capacity assessment of health workers on CMAM services delivery, reproductive health service delivery, vaccination etc. and review the training needs and/or coaching needs.
    • Support the SNO/NE Nutrition sector in organizing LGA based coordination meeting.
    • Facilitate quarterly review meetings/workshops with respective government health managers at State/LGA level.
    • Regularly report and coordinate with line supervisor regarding challenges, issues faced in the field for timely and appropriate decision-making.
    • Ensure regular contact with SMoH service providers and LGA health authorities to receive service delivery report in a timely manner.
    • Treat beneficiaries with dignity and apply AHSF Code of Ethics and Conduct, the UN Convention for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in the field, including sensitizing Field Staffs and vendors/agents on such principles.

    Capacity Building:

    • Identify learning and training opportunities for partner staff and communicate this to the Senior Nutrition Officer. 
    • Ensure all partner officers are familiar with their responsibilities and up to date on any changes.
    • Coordinate project evaluation activities and assist partners in their efforts to collect and analyze project data as per specified tools.

    Position Requirements

    • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree / HND in Nutrition and Dietetics, Nursing, Public Health,  Community Health or another relevant field.
    • Minimum of 5 years work experience in implementing CMAM, IYCF, and other community-based nutrition activities.
    • Master's Degree in relevant fields; Nutrition, Public Health, Community Health will be an added advantage
    • The Nutrition Officer Will be stationed in Gwoza.
    • Good understanding of local dialect.
    • Be proficient in the use of computer applications (Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
    • Have excellent leadership, coordination, team, budget, project management and representation competencies.

    Nutrition Assistant

    Project Implementation

    Job Summary

    • The Nutrition Assistant will be directly responsible for the day-to-day field implementation activities of the emergency nutrition programming through integrated community-based approach using Tom Brown local solution to improve MAM/IYCF done by nutrition surveillance & assessments.
    • He/she will be responsible for managing emergency nutrition responses, working with CNM’s.

    Main Duties & Responsibilities

    • Facilitate the delivery of the nutrition activities at the field level and provide technical support to HWs and CNMs
    • Supporting targeting of beneficiaries; formation and establishment of Care groups; selection of community volunteers and members of community structures.
    • Work closely with care group promoters and lead mothers to ensure all aspects of the program are understood and agreed and appropriate referrals take place to and from the community to health facilities.
    • Work closely with CNMs to ensure all children are screened correctly.
    • Ensure comprehensive health checks and correct clinical diagnosis at the time of assessment according to the CMAM protocols so that the patient receives appropriate treatment in the relevant program.
    • Ensure timely identification of complications, non-responders, and referrals to the SC.
    • Ensure correctness, consistence, and completeness of the information in the nutrition registers.
    • Ensure adequate availability of all medical and food supplies and ensure stock is pre-positioned as planned by discussing with logistics.
    • Through liaison with the community volunteers provide effective follow up of all cases: particularly tracing of children who are absent from the program, sick children, long stay children, children not gaining weight, and children with social problems... etc.
    • Provide key health and nutrition education messages to beneficiaries based on the protocol and guidelines.
    • Respond to inquiries regarding the technical aspects of the program admission.
    • Follow-up and ensure CNMs interact with the beneficiaries properly.
    • Provide a daily and weekly CMAM report to the nutrition officer.
    • Documents lessons learned in specific technical areas.

    Position Requirements

    • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree / HND in Nutrition, Public Health, Community Health or other relevant field.
    • 2 - 3 years work experience in implementing CMAM, IYCF, and other community-based nutrition activities. Experience in MAM treatment using Tom Brown approach is desirable.

    Team Lead

    Project Implementation

    Job Summary

    • The Team Lead will be responsible for maintaining regular contact with the field staff and LGA authorities and will carry over, implementation, monitoring and progress reporting of health projects.

    Major Responsibilities

    • Program Management, Technical Quality, and Strategy:
    • Health program management.
    • Provide overall managerial oversight for implementation of the health program activities;
    • Ensure health projects implementation are of high quality and meets the AHSF / International standards.
    • Support Health Managers to prepare project work plans with clear targets / achievement benchmarks based on project indicators;
    • Provide technical support to health staff and provide them necessary mentoring and trainings as needed to build their capacity and enabling them perform their tasks, including project management skills;
    • In collaboration with Health Managers, develop an expenditure plan, review budget vs. actual expenditure for health grants on a monthly basis and take necessary actions;
    • Ensuring budgets are used appropriately and efficiently and spending is in line with the AHSF financial procedures and donor requirements;
    • Ensure data collection, data compilation, timely preparation and submission of all internal reports including weekly and other associated monthly, quarterly, donor and special reports.
    • Staff Performance Management, Learning & Development:
    • Required for all positions with supervisory responsibility, if special considerations are needed (e.g. remote management), make this additive to the base language here.
    • Hire, supervise, and build the capacity of team members in relevant technical and management competencies.

    Coordination & Representation:

    • Represent the program to State and Local government representatives, partner agencies, etc. as required;
    • In coordination with the Health Coordinator actively develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders with government actors, international and local NGOs, and other relevant actors;
    • Attend all relevant meetings in relation to the health program as may be required and feed in the AHSF priorities during meetings.

    Qualifications     

    • Health professional (B.Sc, Public Health, Environmental Health, RN with an MPH is preferred) with strong public health background.
    • 3 - 5 years experience in coordinating, implementing and managing primary and secondary health programs
    • Experience in writing project proposals, concept notes, budgeting and donors’ reports.
    • Have experience in general management including financial and budget management, HR and logistics management.

    Demonstrated Technical Skills:

    • Background in situation analysis, health assessments M&E and program implementation.
    • Demonstrated Managerial / Leadership Competencies:
    • Skills and experience of remote management and willingness to travel extensively
    • Flexible, diplomatic and have ability and willingness live and work under pressure of workloads.

    Nurse

    Job Summary

    • Participate in planning and undertaking health surveys, rapid assessments, as well as in the monitoring and evaluation of the health program activities.
    • Responsible for providing inputs and data for monthly health activities' reports in timely manner.
    • Provide critical healthcare to people who are in emergency situations.
    • Responding to catastrophic events such as natural disasters disease outbreak, the will nurses apply all expertise in providing wholistic care under the most challenging conditions.

    Responsibilities

    Patient Care:

    • Ensure and conduct the medical consultations with full history taking, clinical examination and provide a diagnosis and prescribe treatment accordingly following the protocols and universal precautions
    • Explain clearly the diagnosis and treatment to the patient and make sure that the patients comply with the treatment

    Management and Efficient Referral System:

    • Ensuring appropriate follow-up care has been given and taking appropriate action if further care is needed

    Medical Data Collection & Reporting:

    • Record accurately and on a readable manner, the clinical case management on the patient health card (history taking, physical examination, treatment, investigation, etc.), and patient registration book

    Field Assistant

    Project Implementation

    Job Overview / Summary

    • The CNM supervisor will report to the nutrition supervisor / assistant and will be responsible for the outlined roles and responsibilities below.
    • The CNM supervisor is responsible for disseminating key sensitization messages through the CNM's and community gathering.
    • The CNM supervisor ensures all identification, screening, registration of malnourished children and Pregnant and lactating mothers are carried out through the use of the MUAC tape.
    • The CNM supervisor ensures a weekly follow up on referrals are carried out.
    • The CNM supervisor should ensure that all reports should be submitted on a weekly and monthly basis to the nutrition supervisor / assistant.
    • The CNM supervisor ensures that all support groups leaders are equipped with items, knowledge, and full attendance sheet for their respective group members.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Support formation of care groups.
    • Support and supervise active case findings.
    • Support commodities distribution.
    • Ensure continuous sensitization during distribution.

    • Support in creating awareness and passing of key messages on WASH, Health, GBV, SGBV and COVID 19 inclusively.
    • Collection of data and submission of daily and weekly report sheet to CNMs supervisor on time.
    • Arrange Community meetings with elders’ community leaders and local stakeholders when the need arise
    • Any other tasks assigned by Line manager/Nutrition supervisor/Nutrition assistant.
    • The CNM supervisor is responsible for conveying nutrition messages through house-to-house visits and community gathering.
    • The CNM supervisor is also responsible for screening and identification of the malnourished children and Pregnant and lactating mothers through the use of the MUAC tape.
    • This ToR shall be inclusive of any other task specifically assigned by the Project Manager and direct supervisor for what concerns the implementation of the program activities.

    Gender and Protection Officer

    Project Implementation

    • Provide lifesaving quality Health care and Nutrition services to the conflict affected individuals in Bama and Gwoza    LGA's during the 2023 Lean season. From July 2023 to December 2023. Tom brown approach will be used for nutrition program in Gwoza LGA only.

    Job Purpose

    • The Gender-Protection Officer’s main assignment will aim at building the capacity of local stakeholders, such as community leaders and other members of the project team on Protection and GBV principles.
    • He/she shall work closely with the beneficiaries on a daily basis to ensure programming is gender sensitive and takes into account the needs of all beneficiaries.
    • The Gender Officer will support the Project Team in conducting the gender assessments throughout the life of the project and will be present at every training session to ensure activities are being implemented in a gender sensitive way.
    • The Gender-Protection Officer will support the NUT/HLTH team in providing protection specific outreach and awareness sessions to the beneficiaries. The Gender-Protection Officer will design, organize, and chair the Gender Discussions Meetings with the beneficiaries, to promote the participation and empowerment of women throughout the project cycle.
    • The incumbent will report to the Project Coordinator and will support the implementation of gender and protection programme activities.
    • The main aim of this position is to support developing community-based protection practices, programs, and activities and mainstream gender in all programming focusing on resilience building

    Duties & Responsibilities of the Position

    • Build the capacity of all project staff on Protection and GBV-related issues, in order to enhance internal knowledge and expertise and provide qualitative delivery of activities with high protection standards and enhance protection sensitive approach within the targeted communities.
    • Work closely with the project team and the beneficiaries to ensure activities are being implemented in a gender sensitive manner.
    • Hold regular meetings with the beneficiaries to determine needs
    • Build a strong and working relationship with the female beneficiaries, ensuring they feel supported throughout the life-span of the project.
    • Support Gender and Protection program and the communities to implement protection, GBV and gender related projects and activities.
    • Conduct capacity building trainings for staff and communities in implementation of minimum standards and various SOPs on gender and protection.
    • Coordinate and monitor all gender and protection activities in the field, ensuring quality implementation and achievements of results by communities.
    • Undertake regular travels to field locations to conduct monitoring visits, activities and/or provide technical support to the communities.
    • In case of delays and concerns relating to implementation, raise red flags to the relevant stakeholders.
    • Ensure smooth implementation of the direct implementation components of the gender and protectionprogramincludingcomplaintsandfeedbackmechanism.
    • Attend the field coordination meetings in collaboration with the other program teams.
    • Prepare, organize and conduct the protection-oriented Focus Group Discussions and Gender Discussion Meetings during project implementation
    • Ensure equal participation of women and men in the activities and ensure to have an appropriate complaint and feedback mechanism to collect the communities’ feedback in a gender sensitive manner and ensure that the programme includes these feedbacks throughout the project implementation
    • Meet regularly with the program team to fine-tune programming, ensuring activities are implemented using a gendered lens.
    • Support in developing training materials, modules and material for sessions, oversight on whether staff and mainstreaming gender by appropriately apply the skills acquired through trainings, include planning, evaluative monitoring and reporting.
    • Assist in monitoring protection needs and service provision in sites according to agree upon guidelines, standards and indicators.
    • Support vulnerable individuals identified during project implementation.
    • Ensure Do No Harm approach is applied in all activities conducted with the site and host communities.
    • Support/help to prepare partner organizations monthly reports and specific reports on programme related topics.
    • Review and improve the quality of organization’s existing data collection tools/databases/reporting templates on gender and protection specific activities.
    • Provide support in reviewing monitoring and evaluation reports as well as conducting gender and protection related assessments.
    • Ensure close coordination with the M&E team to report quality data for gender and protection related outputs.

    Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • BA or equivalent in Social Science, Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Women/ Gender Studies related programs.
    • 5 years of experience in protection gender programming, including significant experience on GBV, women’svoice and/or economic empowerment.
    • Proven skills in partnership building, influencing and negotiation with a range of actors.
    • Excellent interpersonal and team skills;
    • Effective procurement and contract management skills;
    • Excellent skills MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Power point;
    • Strong organizational skills;
    • Ability to multi-task;
    • Ability to manage competing priorities
    • Languages: Ability to speak local dialects is mandatory (Kanuri Language).
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality, ethics and respect for aid recipients at all times.
    • Ability to engage with community members, partners, government and other stakeholders in a respectful manner (essential).
    • Experience with participatory fieldwork, methodologies, monitoring and reporting.
    • Patience, good personal organization, good communication and ability to work in teams.
    • Efficient and responsible, with good personal accountability.
    • Initiative, flexibility, team spirit, willingness to learn, and a positive attitude.
    • Ability to work under time pressure, independently and with limited supervision.
    • Computer literate (IT) and good level of numeracy.

    Essential Skills & Knowledge Required:

    • The holder of this position should have a university degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Human Rights or any other relevant field.
    • This position requires at least 5 years of experience working in child protection and gender development programming, preferably in fragile contexts
