Role Overview
The Programme Assistant, Democracy & Governance will support the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of programmes, particularly under her work on Elections, Women’s public life participation & Legislative Advocacy. This role requires strong coordination & research capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities within a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality programme delivery, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge management while supporting initiatives that advance inclusive governance and women’s political participation.

Key Responsibilities
Programme Implementation & Coordination
- Provide operational and administrative support to ensure efficient programme delivery, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of programme activities, trackers, and correspondence.
- Support the planning, execution, and monitoring of democracy and governance programmes in line with approved workplans.
- Track project milestones, deliverables, and timelines, proactively flagging risks or delays.
- Assist in developing programme materials including reports & presentations.
Research, Analysis & Reporting
- Provide structured research support on governance trends, electoral processes, public policy, and women’s political participation.
- Compile and analyse data to inform programme planning, learning, and evaluation.
- Support the preparation of research briefs, concept notes, and high-quality narrative reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to knowledge products that strengthen institutional learning.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Where relevant, support engagement with programme partners, government institutions, civil society organisations, consultants, and community actors.
- Assist in building and maintaining strategic relationships across the governance ecosystem.
- Facilitate effective internal communication and information sharing across programme teams.
Communication & Outreach
- As required, contribute to project-related communications, ranging from research support for relevant content development to supporting stakeholder communication.
Event and Logistics Coordination
- Support the organisation and coordination of workshops, convenings, training sessions, and stakeholder engagements.
- Support event logistics including venue selection, participant registration, travel coordination, and speaker liaison.
- Prepare event materials, track attendance, and support post-event reporting.
Administrative and Grant Support
- Provide administrative support including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and documenting action points.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of grant proposals, donor reports, and funding documentation where required.
- Perform additional programme-related duties consistent with the responsibilities of the role.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, International Relations, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Law, or a related field.
- A minimum of two (2) years' relevant professional experience in programme support, advocacy, research, public policy, or nonprofit/development environments.
- Experience supporting program coordination, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy efforts in the governance space.
- Strong understanding of Nigeria’s governance landscape, civic actors, political systems, and regional dynamics.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Detail-oriented with exceptional organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Strong organisational, project management, and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software.
- Demonstrated passion for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent research, analytical, and report writing skills.
