    MEAL Officer (Internal and External)

    Project Overview

    • Albarka Health Spring Foundation with funding from CBM International will implement the BMZ-Transitional Development Aid funded Project in Sokoto State, towards strengthening the resilience of vulnerable households in selected communities of Sokoto South, Dangeshuni, Rabah and Wurno LGAs.
    • The project will support IDPs, host, refugee and returnee communities especially women-led household and persons with disabilities (PWDs), to improve their food security through increased and diversified household income, their health and hygiene situation, improve provision of comprehensive and accessible WASH services, especially for women with and without disabilities, Vulnerable people, who experience sexual, gender-based or disability-related violence, have learnt coping and resilience mechanisms and improved their psycho-social well-being through the protection services provided.

    Strategic Project Objective

    • Strengthening the Resilience of Internally Displaced Persons and Vulnerable Households in Host Communities in Northwestern Nigeria (Sokoto State).

    Main Tasks and Responsibilities
    Monitoring and Evaluation:

    • Develop and implement MEAL frameworks and systems for the project, ensuring compliance with AHSF and CBM International standards.
    • Conduct regular field visits to monitor project sites and activities within Sokoto State.
    • Ensuring adherence to MEAL frameworks.
    • Data Management and Analysis:
    • Collect, analyze, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to assess the impact of project activities in Food Security and Livelihood, Health and WASH, and MHPSS and Protection sectors.
    • Maintain a comprehensive database of all MEAL-related data and prepare detailed reports on project performance, including success stories, challenges, and recommendations.

    Accountability:

    • Implement feedback mechanisms to ensure community participation and transparency in project implementation.
    • Document, address, and utilize feedback and complaints from beneficiaries to improve project performance.

    Learning:

    • Identify and document lessons learned, best practices, and case studies from the project.
    • Facilitate learning sessions and workshops to share MEAL findings with project staff, donor and stakeholders.

    Capacity Building:

    • Provide training and support to project staff and partners on MEAL principles, tools, and practices.
    • Develop training materials and manuals on MEAL for internal and external stakeholders.

    Coordination and Reporting:

    • Coordinate with project teams to ensure integration of MEAL activities into project planning and implementation.
    • Prepare and submit regular MEAL reports to the Programs Manager and CBM International, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.

    Compliance:

    • Ensure all MEAL activities comply with Donor/AHSF policies and procedures and adhere to ethical guidelines and standards.

    Additional Duties:

    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Programs Manager/state coordinator to support the overall project objectives.

    Requirements

    • University Degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, Development Studies, or other relevant disciplines.
    • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in a similar role, preferably within donor-funded programs.
    • Strong knowledge of MEAL principles, tools, and methodologies.
    • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, STATA, Excel).
    • Excellent report-writing and communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
    • Fluency in written and oral English.
    • Ability to adopt geographical context into work.
    • Understanding the local language is an added advantage (Hausa).

    Nutrition Assistant - 2 positions

    About the Project

    • The Tom Brown project is a community-based nutrition intervention designed to improve the nutritional status of children aged 6–59 months. The project focuses on preventing malnutrition by providing nutrition education, food demonstrations, and locally produced nutritious foods (Tom Brown).
    • The project supports early screening of children using MUAC, promotes Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MICYN) practices, and encourages caregivers to prepare nutritious meals at home using affordable and locally available ingredients. It also promotes good hygiene practices and healthy behaviors at the household level.
    • Through this project, we aim to reduce malnutrition, improve child growth, and support families to become more self-reliant in meeting their nutrition needs.

    Job Summary

    • The Nutrition Assistant will support the effective implementation of the Tom Brown (TmB) project at community. The role focuses on nutrition screening, distribution of Tom Brown, caregiver education, data collection, and community engagement to improve the nutritional status of children and vulnerable groups.

    Main Duties & Responsibilities

    • Support nutrition screening of children aged 6–59 months using MUAC and oedema checks.
    • Assist in the distribution of Tom Brown and other nutrition commodities according to project guidelines.
    • ⁠Ensure correct ration size and proper beneficiary identification during distribution.
    • Support referral of malnourished children to OTP, TSFP, or Stabilization Centers as appropriate.
    • ⁠Conduct nutrition education sessions for caregivers on Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MICYN) food preparation, hygiene, and proper use of Tom Brown.
    • Demonstrate correct preparation of Tom Brown at community and facility levels.
    • Ensure accurate and timely collection of nutrition and distribution data.
    • Follow-up and ensure CNMs interact with the beneficiaries properly.
    • Provide a daily and weekly report to the nutrition officer.
    • Documents lessons learned in specific technical areas.
    • Treat beneficiaries with dignity and apply AHSF Code of Ethics and Conduct, the UN Convention for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in the field, including sensitizing Field Staffs and vendors/agents on such principles

    Required Profile

    • The Nutrition Assistant WILL be based in Maiduguri.
    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, community health or other relevant field.
    • 1-2 years’ work experience in implementing CMAM, IYCF, and other community-based nutrition activities. Experience in MAM treatment using Tom Brown approach is desirable.
    • Master’s degree in relevant fields; Nutrition, Public Health, Community Health will be an added advantage
    • Be proficient in the use of computer applications (Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
    • Have excellent team, project management and representation competencies.
    • Ability to speak local languages in will be an added advantage.
    • Have previous NGO experience managing mobilization in different interventions (i.e. CBT, WASH, Nutrition) preferably.
    • Be committed to Action the AHSF’s mission, values, and policies.
