    Head, Human Resources

    Key Responsibilies

    • Provide reports on all areas of HR, Payroll and Learning and Development, including the application of Employment Law, HR policy, best practice and workforce development.
    • Advise and strategise on the development of effective employment policies across the company.
    • Provide professional leadership, support and development to HR staff, in order to increase knowledge, share best practice and to ensure that relevant professional standards are met.
    • Ensure that the company complies with current regulations, accepted professional standards, policies and procedures and legislation (including legislation on data protection, the Equality Act and health and safety).
    • Manage the execution of the HR Strategy and core areas of the HR department including Recruitment, Employee Relations, Workforce Administration, Employee Engagement, Payroll, Reward and Recognition, as well as maintaining and improving HR systems and management of the HR budget.
    • Drive the continuous improvement agenda with focus on engagement & welfare activities, maximising productivity, devolving HR responsibilities to line managers and building leadership capability.
    • Take a lead role in transforming and strengthening the organisational culture, ensuring that the company values and approach are displayed.
    • Execute a plan for diversity, equality, and inclusion that aligns with company values, business strategy and commitments.
    • Regularly coach, mentor and support senior and high potential colleagues to identify individual strengths and development needs, develop and maintain effective relationships and encourage retention.
    • Ensure managers are sufficiently skilled and enabled to access appropriate guidance and information to manage workforce issues.

    Role Requirements

    • A minimum of Graduate-level Degree. A master's degree or MBA would be an added advantage.
    • Membership of at least one of CIPM, CIPD, Agile HR, SHRM, HRCI etc.
    • A minimum of 5-10 years cognate experience with at least 4 years in a Management position
    • Human Resource Practitioners license
    • Experience working in the Hospitality Industry
    • Demonstrated experience leading HR initiatives and Delivery teams
    • Good experience in International Recruitment (Expatriates)
    • Ready to work 6 days per week.

    Hostess (Sales, Guest Relations & Specialty Coffee Expert)

    Responsibilities
    Sales & Business Development:

    • Engage customers’ and clients’ in-person and online, building strong relationships that lead to repeat business.  Actively promote and sell Mai Shayi Coffee’s specialty coffee, brewing equipment, and Victoria Arduino/Nuova Simonelli machines to B2B and retail clients.
    • Educate customers on coffee origins, roast profiles, brewing techniques, and coffee tasting experiences.
    • Attend client meetings and industry events to expand our network and business opportunities.

    Guest Relations & Customer Service Excellence:

    • Be the face of Mai Shayi Coffee—offering personalized and engaging interactions with customers.
    • Manage reservations and guest bookings for specialty coffee experiences, tastings, and curated events.
    • Handle guest complaints and feedback with professionalism, ensuring every customer interaction is a positive one.
    • Coordinate VIP and corporate bookings, ensuring high standards of service and experience delivery.

    Curating Unique Cafe Experiences:

    • Lead the creation of immersive coffee experiences, including specialty tastings, master classes, and cultural events.
    • Work closely with the café operations team to implement new concepts that enhance our customer experience. Assist in conceptualizing and executing seasonal and promotional coffee events.

    Internal Communications & Digital Engagement:

    • Serve as a liaison between the Cafe team, Roastery, and Training Academy, ensuring smooth communication and execution of brand objectives.
    • Oversee online guest interactions via Instagram, Facebook, and website inquiries, ensuring swift and professional responses.
    • Assist in content creation and brand storytelling, helping to convey Mai Shayi Coffee’s heritage, innovation, and passion for coffee.

    Coffee Knowledge & Technical Expertise:

    • Develop a deep understanding of specialty coffee, brewing techniques, coffee roasting profiles, and beverage preparation.
    • Train and educate customers and clients on the best brewing methods, decanting styles, and serving approaches for the ultimate coffee experience.
    • Gain working knowledge of Victoria Arduino and Nuova Simonelli espresso machines, assisting with both retail and B2B sales by demonstrating machine capabilities.

    Flexibility & Multi-Location Work:

    • Be adaptable—Hostesses will be deployed to any of our cafe locations based on operational needs
    • Occasionally visit existing and prospective clients for product demonstrations, relationship-building, and sales presentations.

    Who we are looking for
    Core Requirements:

    • Interested candidates should possess a BSc Degree with 2 - 5 years work experience.
    • Must have completed NYSC (National Youth Service Corps)
    • Height Requirement: Tall, poised, and confident in presentation
    • Passionate about coffee, sales, and guest experience
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Flexible, adaptable, and open to working across different locations
    • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and thrive in a dynamic environment
    • Interest in premium hospitality, specialty coffee, and customer engagement

    Bonus Skills (Preferred not mandatory):

    • Prior experience in luxury hospitality, coffeehouses, retail sales, or customer service
    • Knowledge of coffee brewing techniques, espresso machines, and specialty coffee
    • Experience in social media engagement, content creation, or digital communication.

    Commercial Tissue Culture Specialist - Coffee Production

    Position Objective

    • The Tissue Culture Specialist will oversee developing and implementing our commercial plant tissue culture unit for coffee propagation.
    • This role is ideal for someone with a strong leadership background in mass plant micropropagation and research and development (R&D) who excels in commercial environments and is enthusiastic about contributing to the future of African-grown coffee.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop, optimize, and manage all aspects of coffee micropropagation in a sterile lab environment.
    • Select, sterilize, and prepare elite coffee tissues for propagation.
    • Formulate and prepare culture media; maintain and update stock solutions.
    • Maintain high-quality culture collection and sterile working conditions.
    • Schedule propagation timelines and ensure ongoing plantlet production.
    • Implement new protocols for introducing novel varieties into culture.
    • Record and analyze observations, results, and production data.
    • Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on plant production, contamination rates, lab supply usage, and project milestones to management.
    • Maintain and update nursery records and technical logs (e.g., flask replacement dates, use of disinfectants, and inventory).
    • Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of lab assistants and technicians.
    • Ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practices and internal SOPs.
    • Manage nursery practices, including hardening, disease control, and acclimatization of plantlets.
    • Coordinate with R&D and agronomy teams to integrate propagation outcomes into plantation strategies.

    Required Qualifications & Experience

    • Education: Master’s Degree in Plant Biotechnology, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field.
    • 7 - 10 years of hands-on experience in commercial plant tissue culture (coffee or similar high-value crops preferred).

    Proven expertise in:

    • Aseptic techniques and micropropagation.
    • Media formulation and contamination control. Initiation and maintenance of tissue cultures. o R&D protocol development and varietal improvement.
    • Experience managing a lab producing at least 1 million plantlets per annum.
    • Strong background in nursery and floriculture practices.
    • Technical expertise in organic fertilizers and indigenous plant growth nutrients.
    • Experience in lab setup and facility management is an added advantage.
    • High level of integrity, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Desirable Skills
    • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
    • Excellent interpersonal and team leadership skills
    • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
    • Willingness to work overtime as needed and adapt to shifting priorities.
    • Ability to document work accurately and communicate findings effectively.
    • Advanced training in tissue culture techniques is preferred.

    Reporting Line:

    • The Commercial Tissue Culture Specialist will report directly to the Head of Production & Innovation and work closely with the Managing Director on strategic propagation targets and quality assurance metrics.
