    National Sales Manager

    About the job

    • As the National Sales Manager, you are the primary executor of Johnvents FMCG’s commercial vision across Nigeria. You are responsible for the daily performance of the entire field sales organization, ensuring that our national sales strategies are translated into operational excellence at the territory, area, and regional levels. This role requires a hands-on leader who can balance high-level RTM strategy with the grit required to manage large-scale distribution networks, van operations, and field teams in a highly competitive market.

    Key Responsibilities

    Sales Execution & Operational Control

    • Direct the implementation of national sales plans across all regions, ensuring consistent execution of the 4Ps (Presence, Placement, Pricing, and Promotion) in every territory.
    • Oversee the management of regional and area sales managers, ensuring they meet daily, weekly, and monthly volume and revenue targets.
    • Monitor distributor health, inventory levels, and trade debt to ensure operational continuity and minimize business losses.

    Route-to-Market (RTM) Optimization

    • Manage the design and deployment of efficient route-to-market structures, including the optimization of van fleets, sub-distribution models, and direct-to-retail initiatives.
    • Identify and penetrate "white spaces" in the Nigerian market, ensuring Johnvents products are available in every relevant consumer cluster.
    • Conduct frequent field visits to audit execution, gather market intelligence, and support the field team in resolving complex channel conflicts.

    Field Force Management & Coaching

    • Recruit, train, and develop a high-impact sales force, focusing on building a pipeline of field-ready leaders who understand the nuances of the informal retail trade.
    • Implement structured performance management frameworks and incentive schemes that drive sales force accountability, attendance, and productivity.
    • Establish a culture of integrity and operational discipline, ensuring the sales team acts as brand ambassadors for the Johnvents name.

    Data-Led Performance Management

    • Drive the adoption of SFA (Sales Force Automation) and CRM tools across the national team to ensure 100% visibility of secondary sales and stock levels.
    • Conduct regular business reviews with regional heads, utilizing data to pivot tactics, reallocate assets, and reward top-performing territories.

    Requirements

    • Experience: 10+ years of progressive FMCG sales experience, with at least 5 years in a regional or national sales leadership role.
    • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, or a related field; MBA or professional sales certifications are highly advantageous.
    • Market Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of the Nigerian informal trade, street vending, and last-mile distribution networks.
    • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead large, geographically dispersed teams and manage diverse groups of stakeholders, including key distributors and field agents.
    • Operational Discipline: Proven track record of managing P&L, trade budgets, and complex logistics in a high-volume FMCG environment.

    Sales Director

    • As the Sales Director, you will serve as the chief commercial architect for Johnvents FMCG. This is a high-level executive role responsible for the long-term vision, commercial viability, and national market dominance of the Johnvents product portfolio. You will oversee the entire sales ecosystem, steering the business toward aggressive growth targets while ensuring that our route-to-market strategies are modernized, data-driven, and highly profitable. You are the strategic bridge between the Group Board’s vision and the operational realities of the Nigerian FMCG landscape.

    Key Responsibilities

    Enterprise Sales Strategy

    • Define and champion the long-term commercial roadmap for Johnvents FMCG, focusing on national market share expansion and brand equity growth.
    • Direct the transformation of the sales division from traditional distribution models to a high-velocity, technology-enabled commercial powerhouse.
    • Identify high-value business development opportunities and institutional partnerships to diversify revenue streams beyond standard trade channels.

    National Commercial Governance & P&L

    • Hold full accountability for the P&L of the sales division, managing multi-billion naira budgets, trade investment, and operational expenditures.
    • Provide regular strategic reporting to the Group Board of Directors on market trends, competitive positioning, and commercial performance.
    • Oversee the formulation and enforcement of national pricing policies, distributor contracts, and trade incentive frameworks.

    Strategic Route-to-Market (RTM) & Distribution

    • Design and implement an adaptive RTM strategy that balances the scale of large-scale distributors with the granularity of micro-distribution and street-commerce models.
    • Lead executive-level negotiations with major national distributors, modern trade chains, and HORECA partners to secure long-term commitment and growth.
    • Ensure 100% operational synergy between the sales organization, supply chain, and production planning to prevent stockouts and optimize market service levels.

    Executive Leadership & Culture

    • Build a high-performance leadership pipeline, mentoring Regional Sales Managers and senior commercial leads to foster a culture of integrity, accountability, and commercial aggression.
    • Spearhead the adoption of digital transformation in sales, ensuring that all regional hubs utilize real-time data for decision-making.
    • Represent Johnvents FMCG at high-level industry events, government engagements, and trade associations to advocate for the company’s market interests.

    Requirements

    • Experience: 15+ years of extensive experience in FMCG, with at least 8 years in senior executive roles (Sales Director, Country Head, or Commercial Director).
    • Education: Master’s Degree or MBA from a top-tier institution is highly preferred; Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, or related fields is mandatory.
    • Commercial Maturity: A proven track record of managing national P&L and delivering consistent double-digit revenue growth in the Nigerian FMCG sector.
    • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead large, geographically dispersed teams and manage complex stakeholder environments, including Board-level interactions.
    • Strategic Vision: Ability to conceptualize and execute market-entry strategies for new products and categories within the FMCG space.
