    Nurse - Reserve Pool

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    • Knowing, promoting, implementing and following up the universal hygiene standards / precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises and ensuring high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment.
    • Respect medical secrets and confidentiality at all times.
    • Organizing and carrying out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, and assisting during consultations, daily rounds and other medical procedures.
    • Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
    • Identifying Sexually Gender Based Violence victims and referring them to the medical team so they can receive the necessary treatment. Knowing and is aware of the importance and appropriate use of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Kit
    • Ensure patients are received, installed and that those with lack of autonomy are assisted, especially regarding their feeding, personal hygiene, movements and comfort.
    • For ER and OPD nurse, ensuring triage of patients in waiting areas, wards or during emergencies, detecting the priority acute/emergency cases, carrying out first aid care and referring them to the doctor when necessary
    • Sending material to be sterilized and recuperates it from sterilization
    • Carrying out admission, surveillance and follow-up of patients (i.e. assessment of the evolution of their state of health and the identification of any emergency situation or deterioration
    • Carry and supervise administrative procedures and documents (fill in patient’s files, forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.), ensuring an appropriate written/oral handover, and reporting any problematic situations and cases that may arise. Participating in data collection and keeping doctors/supervisors informed.
    • Participating in the department-related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance (quality and its functioning, storage conditions, follow-up of expired drugs inventories, stock takes of medicines and material at every team changeover ensuring no material is taken out of nursing area/wards without prior authorization.
    • Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
    • Supervising and training nurse-aids, nutrition assistants, cleaners and other related staff under his/her supervision, ensuring teamwork and adherence to all appropriate protocols and procedures.

    MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
    Administration:

    • Ensure all the new admissions in the waiting area are seen and sort them according to our triage system to rapidly identify life threatening conditions in patients that must be treated immediately (priority1), those with serious conditions that should be treated rapidly (priority2) and those who should be treated in turn (priority 3).
    • Regular monitoring of general status of patients, giving priority for consultation to those that present with signs of severity such as; lethargy-unconsciousness, convulsions, fever, dehydration, respiratory distress and malnutrition.
    • Provide routine nursing care to ATFC and ITFC patients as per Dr’s prescription and NTS recommendation, or specific cares driven by finding from routine patients monitoring activities.
    • When called upon, together with the ER team, be able to assist in resuscitation of critical patients.
    • Lead patients to their respective department decided by the MD and give an in-depth handover to the nurses there.
    • Support in data collection by proper filling of registers, tally sheet, etc. as assigned by the supervisors.
    • Maintain adequate IPC measures during all cares and ensure correct waste segregation and disposal according to MSF guidelines- respect the bucket system in place.
    • Respect medical ethics and confidentiality.
    • Participate in the department-related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance (carrying out inventories, carrying out stock takes of medicines and material at every team changeover, ensuring no material is taken out of nursing area/wards without prior authorisation, checking its quality and its functioning, storage conditions, doing follow-up of expired drugs, etc.).
    • Sample collection and proper handover to Lab.
    • Ensure an appropriate written/oral handover between shifts including they biomed equipment

    Patient orientation:

    • Participate in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary while checking the admission checklist.

    Teamwork and cooperation:

    • Participate in meetings organized by the department or supervisor.
    • Participate/go to mandatory trainings requested by the supervisor.
    • Be flexible and support colleagues and other departments when the situation requires it

    Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications:

    • Education: Bachelor of Nursing Science/Diploma in Nursing essential. Required license to practice.
    • Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience in Nursing practice with MSF, other INGO/NGO, or a private medical facility.
    • Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting.
    • Languages: English essential. Local language (Hausa) is desirable.
    • Knowledge: Average knowledge of malnutrition case management protocols.
    • Competencies: Results and Quality Oriented, Teamwork and Cooperation, Behavioural Flexibility, Commitment to MSF Principles, Stress Management.

    Hygiene Agent

    Job Description

    Performing tasks related to hygiene and disinfection according to protocols applied in the service, knowing and applying specific hygiene protocols and security rules. This includes but are not limited to the following:

    • Maintaining clean and disinfected, the infrastructures allocated to his/her position including the furniture, doors, walls and floor and some medical material (rooms of patients, of consultation, laboratory, operating theatre, delivery room, mortuary, waiting room, staff room, storage room, kitchen, bathroom and latrines) applying specific protocols and using the tools and equipment provided.
    • Cleaning floors, equipment, beds, toilets and showers according to protocols and schedule
    • Collecting and evacuating waste produced by medical structures to the designated site, previously sorted by medical staff and emptying out dustbins as often as necessary to ensure an efficient quality of care and safe environment
    • Raising awareness on hygiene and sanitation measures amongst patients, visitors, staff, mothers to use correctly the water distribution points, latrines, hand washing points and washing areas in collaboration with the nursing and health promotion team
    • Filling all water containers every morning (drinking water and hand washing points) and refilling when half full and for hand washing, ensuring soap is available
    • Installing mosquito nets as required for in-patient beds and carrying out laundry activities according to protocols
    • Ensuring proper use, storage and maintenance of the equipment and tools provided.
    • Ensuring availability of hygiene and sanitation products, and draws up orders for on-going needs
    • Reporting any repair or maintenance work needed related to hygiene to the supervisor, as well as any relevant information related to his/her responsibilities.

    Qualifications

    Data Entry Operator

    Responsibilities

    • Enter medical data (e.g. patient data, dates of visit, content of prescription, viral load, etc.) in mission’s database on a
    • regular basis and according to MSF protocols.
    • Participate in compilation of data both from MSF structures and from collaborating health facilities.
    • Participate in the search for missing data.
    • Update files of existing patients and make any corrections needed.

    Community Health Educator

    Responsibilities

    • Strengthening the link between the community and MSF programs and activities
    • Promote MSF ICCM services through mobilization, referrals and strengthening linkage to care
    • Conduct home visit/follow up of referrals from ICCM, ATFC and ITFC Support defaulter tracing (nutrition, vaccination, ANC) Assist in community mapping
    • Conduct daily health education sessions in the selected communities about MSF and different medical thematics with the target population
    • Organize and conduct routine meeting/capacity building sessions with the community leaders, community key people like e.g TBAs, youth and women group etc. in the target communities in collaboration with HP supervisor

    Nursing Team Supervisor

    Responsibilities
    Administration:

    • Check whether the patient files are filled in correctly (e.g. Biodata, drugs chart, documentation of feedings,weight graphs, documentation of important information in the nurse’s notes using ISBAR, etc.).
    • Check for clear identification of every patient (bracelets and files)
    • Follow up of the stock of blank patient file documents (e.g. doctor’s notes, nurse’s notes, PEWS, Pesomal sheet, SDTM sheet, dietary prescription, discharge forms, etc.). Inform the Nurse Activity Manager in a timely manner when the quantities become low, so that photocopies can be made before ruptures occur.
    • Generate the monthly rosters in a good time.
    • Participate in the MMR and Q/Annual reports.
    • Facilitate induction and onboarding of new nursing staff

    Medical care:

    • Assist the nurse team leader (responsible) in bedside coaching and training of the nurses, and nutrition assistants with the support of the Head of nutrition assistants.
    • Report the training needs to the Nurse Activity Manager in order to create and organize teaching tools and trainings together.
    • Supervise the quality of nursing care provided: e.g. preparation and administration of medication, measuring and interpretation of vital signs, reaction on EWS, application of the medical protocols, clinical follow-up, re- hydration, and early detection of the medical complications.
    • With the Head of nutrition assistant, make sure feeding sessions are correctly done, well documented and ensure the participation of all staff.
    • With the Head of Nutrition assistant supervise the anthropometric follow-up: correct measurement and documentation of the weight, height, MUAC and edema.
    • Assist in the morning ward round / pre departure for external clinic, to identify problems that should be attended to immediately and to prepare accordingly.
    • Check whether the nurses, and nutrition assistants understand the medical instructions to be performed (e.g. calculation of drug doses, calculation of infusion rate, steps in case of deterioration of the patient, changes in the medical and nutritional treatment, etc.).
    • Ensure a good and complete handover between the different shifts, different teams and different locations.
    • Assist the nurse team leader in maintaining a strict application of the IPC protocols in the units and for the equipment.
    • Supervise the respect of the standard precaution guideline and additional precautions by all staff members.
    • Support the nurse team leader with the inventory of the pharmacies in each unit and with the composition of the pharmacy order. Report discrepancies in consumption to the Nurse Activity Manager/Head Nurse (NKH or External activities)
    • Assist the nurse team leader in the follow up of the medical equipment: cleaning, maintenance, safety, replacement, daily inventory.
    • Perform nursing care if necessary (e.g. in case of heavy workload, in case of doubt or problem for any staff).
    • Overall responsible for correct waste segregation and disposal as per MSF protocol, constantly monitoring and reminding team leaders and staff of the importance.
    • Make sure all staff in ITFC and External activity team knows their tasks and how to perform in a satisfactory way.
    • Ensure that the dignity and confidentiality of the patients and the caretakers are respected.
    • Ensure all patients admitted are properly installed in the ward/unit and immediately registered upon entry or exit on the ward/unit register

    Patient orientation:

    • Ensure that comprehensible health education sessions are given for all caretakers, performed by the health promoters and the medical staff.
    • Make sure that communication between the mental health counselor and other medical staff is clear and that mental health support is given to patients/caretakers needing it.
    • Ensure that the dignity and confidentiality of the patients and the caretakers are respected.
    • Make sure that attention is paid to the psychosocial stimulation of the patients (HP, nurses and nutrition assistants).

    Teamwork and cooperation:

    • Ensure a good working relationship between all the staff in all the departments (internal and external) Assess and solve problems occurring between the patients and the staff following the protocol.
    • Assess and solve problems occurring between staff, in collaboration with the Nursing Activity Manager and Head Nurse following the protocol.
    • participate in team meetings, briefings and training sessions.

    Head of Sterilization Technician

    Responsibilties

    • Acting as a technical mentor by providing hands-on training and regular coaching for sterilization technicians at MSF-supported BEMONC sites.
    • This ensures that sterilization quality remains consistent across the referral network, not just within the main hospital.
    • Together with the Supervisor in managing the duty roster for both MOH and MSF staff to ensure full coverage at all times
    • This includes the strategic allocation of personnel between "dirty" (decontamination) and "clean" (packaging/sterilization) zones to prevent cross-contamination and ensure strict adherence to infection control circuits.

    Vaccinator

    Responsiblties

    • Ensure the safety of patients through correct vaccine handling, administration, and monitoring for adverse events.
    • Prepare and administer vaccines following MSF and national EPI protocols, ensuring correct dosage, route, and schedule.
    • Screen patients prior to vaccination to identify contraindications and ensure eligibility.
    • Monitor and record vaccine storage temperatures and immediately report any cold chain breaches.
    • Support stock counts and inform the supervisor of supply needs/ruptures.
    • Ensure safe segregation and disposal of sharps and medical waste according to MSF procedures.
    • Accurately complete vaccination registers, tally sheets, and patient vaccination cards.

    • Report any safety incidents, AEFI, or deviations from protocol to the supervisor.
