Role Description
This is a full-time, hybrid position located in Lagos, Nigeria. The Sales Director is responsible for leading the sales department, creating and executing sales strategies, and developing growth opportunities to drive revenue. Responsibilities include managing sales operations, building and nurturing client relationships, ensuring excellent customer service, and overseeing team performance to meet and exceed targets. Additional tasks include collaborating with other teams for streamlined workflows and supporting business development initiatives.
STRATEGIC MANDATE
- The Sales Director will be accountable for defining and executing the company's lending sales vision. Core strategic responsibilities include:
- Design and execute a multi-channel sales strategy targeting consumer, commercial, and institutional lending markets
- Identify and penetrate new market segments, geographies, and customer verticals to drive top-line growth
- Develop go-to-market strategies for new and existing lending products aligned with market demand and competitive positioning
- Set and achieve aggressive revenue targets with a clear framework for measurement and accountability
Team Leadership & Culture
- Recruit, develop, and retain a world-class sales team; build a culture of performance, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Establish mentorship pipelines and leadership development frameworks to grow talent from within
- Drive sales team productivity through data-driven coaching, structured pipeline reviews, and performance management
- Foster cross-functional collaboration between Sales, Underwriting, Operations, Compliance, and Marketing
Strategic Partnerships & Relationship Development
- Build and manage executive-level relationships with banks, credit unions, mortgage brokers, fintech partners, and referral networks
- Negotiate strategic alliances, co-lending arrangements, and channel distribution partnerships
- Represent the company at industry conferences, regulatory forums, and client-facing executive events
- Serve as a brand ambassador and thought leader in the lending space
Market Intelligence & Competitive Strategy
- Monitor and analyse lending industry trends, competitor positioning, regulatory shifts, and macroeconomic factors
- Translate market intelligence into actionable sales strategies and product development insights
- Advise executive leadership on pricing strategy, product design, and market entry/exit decisions
- Leverage data analytics and CRM systems to identify pipeline opportunities and forecast revenue with precision
Compliance & Risk-Aware Selling
- Ensure all sales activities comply with federal and state lending regulations
- Partner with Legal and Compliance teams to build a sales culture rooted in ethical lending practices
- Proactively identify and mitigate regulatory and reputational risks in the sales process
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- 8-12 years of progressive experience in the lending industry, with at least 5 years in senior sales leadership
- Demonstrated track record of consistently exceeding revenue targets in a lending or financial services environment
- Deep knowledge of lending products, including mortgage, consumer, commercial, SBA, and speciality lending
- Proven experience leading and scaling high-performance sales teams of 10 or more professionals
- Executive-level relationship management experience with institutional partners, brokers, and C-suite clients
- Strong command of loan origination systems (LOS), CRM platforms, and sales analytics tools.
- Comprehensive understanding of federal and state lending regulations and compliance requirements
