    Financial Accountant

    Summary.

    • The Financial Accountant is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the company's financial records through accurate recording, analysis, and reporting of financial transactions. This role plays a key part in the month-end closing process, statutory compliance, audit preparation, and financial reporting. In United Nigeria Airline setting, the Financial Accountant ensures all financial records reflect complex aviation operations such as revenue from ticket sales, aircraft leases, fuel costs, and foreign currency transactions.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    General Ledger Management

    • Maintain and reconcile general ledger
    • Post journal entries and ensure proper documentation and coding
    • Review trial balance for accuracy and resolve discrepancies
    • Perform month-end closing activities including accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations
    • Support year-end audits with required schedules and documentation
    • Analyze variances between actual results and budget/forecast
    • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, and internal policies Monitor and maintain internal financial controls and processes
    • Shall collate and prepare schedule of VAT & WHT Payable due for payment to Tax authorities each month
    • Handle accounting for aircraft leases (IFRS 16), fuel costs, and maintenance reserves
    • Monitor foreign exchange gains/losses related to USD-denominated transactions Perform any other tasks as may be assigned by your Line Manager.

    Requirements:

    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
    • ACA, ACCA, or equivalent certification.

    Experience:

    • 4-6 years of relevant accounting experience (aviation industry experience preferred).
    • Strong understanding of financial statements and general accounting principles

    Skills:

    • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Tally, or similar).
    • Strong Excel skills (financial modeling, reconciliations).
    • Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
    • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.

    Preferred Attributes:

    • Experience with multi-currency and intercompany accounting.
    • Knowledge of airline industry financial flows (e.g., revenue recognition, fuel hedging, lease accounting).
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across departments (e.g., commercial, engineering, operations).
