Deputy Head of School (Early Years & Primary Focused) at Broadoaks British School

JOB PURPOSE

• The Head of Early Years & Primary and Deputy Head of School is responsible for providing academic and operational leadership within the Early Years and Primary school, ensuring high standards of education and student development. The role also involves deputizing for the Head of School in overseeing campus-wide strategic initiatives, staff management, and student affairs.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

• The Head of Early Years & Primary and Deputy Head of School ensures that teaching and learning within the Early Years and Primary school align with the highest standards, drives curriculum development, manages student behaviour, and supports staff development. Additionally, this role requires overseeing school operations, fostering a positive school culture, and ensuring compliance with educational policies and regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Academic Leadership:

• Oversee the delivery of a high-quality, British-based curriculum in the Early Years and Primary school.
• Ensure effective teaching and learning strategies are implemented across all departments.
• Monitor and evaluate academic performance, student progress, and assessment outcomes.
• Support the professional development of teaching staff through training, mentorship, and appraisal systems.
• Develop and implement innovative teaching practices to enhance student engagement and achievement.
• Collaborate with the Head of School to set academic targets and ensure continuous improvement.
• Ensure the availability of appropriate learning resources and teaching materials.

Operational & Strategic Leadership:

• Assist the Head of School in implementing the school’s vision, mission, and strategic plan.
• Stand in for the Head of School in their absence, overseeing school operations.
• Work closely with academic leads to align teaching methodologies with the school’s academic goals.
• Support the development and implementation of policies related to discipline, attendance, and safeguarding.
• Oversee the maintenance of facilities, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment.
• Oversee logistics for school events, parent engagement sessions, and staff training.
• Develop and manage school budgets, ensuring resources are allocated effectively.

Student Development & Welfare:

• Foster a positive and inclusive school culture that supports student well-being.
• Develop and oversee student behaviour management policies and intervention strategies.
• Implement pastoral care programs to support students' emotional and social development.
• Promote student leadership programs and extracurricular activities.
• Monitor and address student attendance, punctuality, and overall discipline.
• Collaborate with external agencies to support students with additional needs.

Staff Management & Development:

• Lead, mentor, and support Early Years & Primary school staff to achieve their professional goals.
• Conduct performance appraisals, providing constructive feedback and support.
• Foster a collaborative and supportive working environment among staff members.
• Organize and lead professional development sessions for teachers.
• Facilitate peer observations and collaborative planning sessions to enhance teaching practises.

Parental & Community Engagement:

• Develop strong relationships with parents, ensuring regular communication about student progress.
• Organize parent-teacher conference meetings, workshops, and school-wide engagement activities.
• Represent the school in external academic and community forums as assigned.
• Create and distribute newsletters and updates via the school’s communication platform to keep parents informed about school initiatives and events.

School Administration & Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with national and international educational standards and policies.
• Maintain accurate academic records, student reports, and administrative documents.
• Support the accreditation process and school inspections.
• Work with the finance department to manage the school’s budget and resource allocation.
• Conduct regular audits of school policies and practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

REQUIREMENTS

• Proven experience as a senior leader in an academic setting, preferably within a British curriculum school.
• Strong leadership and decision-making skills with a strategic mindset.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Experience in curriculum development, staff management, and student affairs.
• Ability to analyse academic data and implement evidence-based improvements.
• Strong knowledge of child safeguarding, educational policies, and school governance.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an advantage.
• Professional teaching certification like TRCN or educational leadership qualifications preferred.
• Minimum of 10+ years of experience in school leadership roles.
