    Business Development Manager

    Job Summary

    • The Business Development Manager is responsible for leading and executing the firm’s business development strategy across sectors and geographies. The role oversees opportunity identification, proposal development, pipeline management, and client acquisition efforts. Working closely with the Partner for Market Expansion & Partnerships, this role plays a critical role in deepening market presence, entering new verticals, and securing strategic partnerships.

    As Business Development Manager your responsibilities will be to:

    Business Growth & Strategy Execution

    • Develop and implement business development plans in alignment with the firm’s growth objectives.
    • Lead sectoral and regional expansion strategies, including entry into new markets and client segments.
    • Oversee the development and rollout of the firm’s go-to-market strategy for new service offerings.

    Client Acquisition & Relationship Management

    • Identify and pursue high-value prospects across public, private, and development sectors.
    • Build and nurture strong relationships with potential and existing clients to drive repeat business and referrals.
    • Represent the firm at networking events, industry forums, and stakeholder engagements.

    Proposal Development & Bid Management

    • Lead the end-to-end proposal and bidding process—including capture planning, content development, partner coordination, and submission oversight.
    • Maintain a library of pitch decks, capability statements, and proposal templates tailored to various sectors and clients.
    • Monitor success rates and continuously improve proposal quality and competitiveness.

    Pipeline & Performance Management

    • Maintain and manage the firm’s opportunity pipeline through CRM tools or dashboards.
    • Provide regular reports on pipeline progress, conversion rates, revenue forecasts, and business development KPIs.
    • Support resource planning and coordination for active pursuits and proposals.

    Market Intelligence & Insight Generation

    • Conduct competitor analysis, market scans, and client segmentation to inform strategy.
    • Identify trends, risks, and emerging opportunities in target sectors or donor landscapes.
    • Contribute to thought leadership, including blogs, white papers, or sector briefs.

    Team Leadership & Collaboration

    • Manage and mentor business development team members, including proposal writers, market researchers, and vertical leads.
    • Work closely with practice leads, project managers, and the research unit to align BD with technical capacity.
    • Foster a high-performance culture grounded in collaboration, accountability, and innovation.

    You’d be a good fit if you:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, International Development, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
    • 8+ years of progressive experience in business development, strategy, or client engagement—ideally in a consulting, professional services, or development sector environment.
    • Proven success in securing large-scale consulting contracts, grants, or frameworks.
    • Strong proposal development skills with experience responding to RFPs, RFQs, and donor solicitations.
    • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship-building capabilities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho CRM).
