    Program Officer -British Red Cross

    Job Purpose

    Under the direct supervision and the guidance of the Programme coordinator, the Programme Officer will:

    • Plan and monitor implementation of the BRC/ NRCS Country programme in a timely, effective and efficient manner.
    • Work closely with the National Society to strengthen preparedness and response capacity to enable the NS improve their disaster management programming.
    • Support ongoing collaboration with all relevant partners in the region in the field of disaster risk management and will also work on further developing these relationships.

    The job will require travel to the project locations in Lagos, Imo, FCT, Delta and Bauchi of about 50% of the total work hours.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    He/ she will have the following responsibilities:

    • Responsible in planning, implementation, and reporting of components of the Disaster Management programme, under overall programme leadership of the Programme Coordinator
    • Lead development of Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) component of the DM programme
    • Coordinate follow-up on implementation plans with colleagues in London and Nigeria on key strategic topics such as Community Engagement and Accountability and Prevention and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse
    • Strengthen capacity and competencies in the programme branches on Water Sanitation and Hygiene.
    • Ensure effective working relationships with the relevant departments/ branches of NRCS as well as WASH/ Health technical advisors at BRC.
    • Provision of guidance and support implementation of activities related to other technical areas of the project, mainly related to logistics, information management, Protection and Gender Inclusion, and Health
    • Conduct monitoring and supervisory visits to the programme activity sites in the field.
    • Organize and facilitate training sessions for National Society technical staff and volunteers in various areas of disaster risk management.
    • Participate in relevant meetings with relevant stakeholders where needed.
    • Perform other duties in addition to the above responsibilities, commensurate with background and experience as deemed necessary by Supervisor; especially contributing to development and management of additional programmes in future.

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in development studies, Public health or field relevant

    Experience

    Relevant:

    • Experience in the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement
    • Experience with planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting on projects for Disaster Management programming
    • Experience in capacity building initiatives for Disaster Risk Reduction or WASH
    • Experience in coordinating stakeholders across organizations

    Preferred:

    • Experience within a multi-cultural environment
    • Experience in partner relationship management and attention to detail

    Knowledge, Skills and Languages

    Relevant:

    • Strong communication skills
    • Computer Literate (especially excel, word, power point)
    • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
    • Initiative and flexibility
    • Accuracy and attention to details

    Assistant, Programme- British Red Cross

    Job Purpose

    • This role will support the British Red Cross country team with tasks on the different projects with the Nigerian Red Cross, especially support to the development of the FSL project.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    He/ she will have the following responsibilities:

    • Provide support in development of Food Security and Livelihoods component of the Disaster Management Programme
    • Provide support to issues related to the Development of the Nigeria Red Cross Society, including:
    • Coordination with the National Society and other relevant RC/RC movement partners on the follow-up of the findings of the due diligence process to ensure that identified organizational weaknesses will be addressed
    • Support in preparing for meetings related to National Society Development (review of documents, drafting of position papers)
    • Support in accompanying the National Society in the process of operationalizing the NRCS country strategy
    • Ensure team travels and logistics are properly organized
    • Mange working advances from IFRC and prepare monthly invoices
    • Support the BRC Programme Coordinator in planning and reporting related to the Country programme (and possibly additional programmes in future), as well as administrative management
    • Prepare regular reports and organize records
    • Provide support in the development of programme proposals
    • Organize a filing system for important and confidential documents:
    • Policies and procedures
    • Financial documents
    • Programmatic and strategy related documents
    • Contracts and agreements
    • Maintain the office calendar:
    • Keep an overview of relevant meetings and events
    • Maintain an overview of staff on visits to Nigeria
    • Support in the procurement of items and services according to IFRC/ BRC procedures
    • Follow up on other office services and maintenance when needed (plumbing, painting, etc)
    • General office administration
    • Adhere to the RC/ RC movement values.
    • Undertake other duties as are reasonably required.

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in international relations, Public health or relevant field

    Experience

    Relevant:

    • Experience providing administrative and logistics support
    • Experience in analyzing information for writing reports, background papers, or newsletters.
    • Experience within a multi-cultural environment

    Preferred.

    • Experience working in the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement or similar organization.
    • Experience with Disaster Management programming

    Knowledge, Skills and Languages

    • Strong communication skills
    • Computer Literate (especially excel, word, power point)
    • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
    • Initiative and flexibility
    • Accuracy and attention to details
