    Distribution Assistant

    Location: Maiduguri, Borno
    Type of Contract: Fixed Term
    Contracted Hours: 35
    Contract Length: 3 Months
    Reports To: Programme officer - Nutrition

    Role Purpose

    • To support Christian Aid’s development, implementation and monitoring of WFP Nutrition project.
    • The Distribution assistants will be vital in implementing BSFP, active cases findings and the implementation of the Strategic Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) component of the project. There is the need to have people who are dedicated in ensuring that the Nutrition component is implemented with the quality required and consistent with Christian Aid policies and guidelines.
    • The Distribution assistants will be based in Mafa, supporting the implementation of Nutrition activities.

    Role Context:

    • The Distribution assistants will be based in Mafa, Borno State and will report to the Programme officer – Nutrition, while working in close coordination with the programme assistant – Nutrition.
    • He/she will actively participate in distribution of BSFP commodities and coordinate all other aspects relating to distributions.

    Key Outcomes

    • Work in close coordination with the programme assistant – Nutrition to arrange, organize and attend distributions and provide prepare post – distribution reports and in the preparation of the monthly/weekly work plan schedules.
    • Work with the programme assistant – Nutrition to organize and arrange distributions according to SOP defined by WFP and CAID.
    • Directly facilitate the distribution of commodities to eligible beneficiaries by strictly following verification process and methodology and standards defined by the donor and CAID.
    • Coordinate crowd control, verification of beneficiaries and receipt of entitled commodities by the beneficiaries in exact amount as entitled in methodology.
    • To collect all data needed for reporting after distributions.
    • Submit accurate and detailed reports on distributions and assistance provided to beneficiaries during distributions.
    • Ensure that all commodities entrusted to CAID arriving at food distribution point are properly accounted for. Commodities must carefully be counted during off-loading at distribution site.
    • Take active role in the registration and verification of beneficiaries to ensure that the process is fair and organize and supervise food/supplement distributions in the field and FDPs.
    • Ensure that the food distribution point is properly organized and secured with ropes and crowd control measures put in place to ensure smooth distribution and flow of beneficiaries.
    • Responsible to ensure that all necessary distribution equipment’s are available at the distributions point, including forms, ropes, banners, plastic sheets, measuring devices etc.
    • Supervise loading of food that is left over after distributions.
    • Ensure that a waybill is prepared for food to be returned to the warehouse.
    • Ensure proper completion and safe return of all tally documents and beneficiary lists to the office for safe storage.
    • Ensure proper accounting of all quantities of commodities received and distributed at each distribution point.

    Working Relationships

    • External: Assist in supporting the programme officer – Nutrition to coordinate with WFP and the Nutrition cluster at the filed level (LGA).
    • Internal: Works closely with the programme assistant – Nutrition in supporting the programme officer – Nutrition, the wider project team, Nigeria country team and humanitarian colleagues.

    Applied Skills / Knowledge and Expertise
    Essential:

    • Have a minimum of Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) and experience in humanitarian contexts (conflict/insecure contexts) as well as CMAM, IYCF and community mobilization.
    • Be professional, have good organizational capacity, good human relationships, self-motivated, open, creative, proactive, responsible, flexible and culturally sensitive.
    • Have a minimum of 1-year work experience in Nutrition, SBCC approach and IYCF.
    • Have excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
    • Experience in facilitating discussions and meetings, coordination and supervision of a team.
    • Experience in preparing monthly work plans and plan appropriately for tasks assigned.
    • Experience in writing reports and collecting relevant information from surveys, community, health facilities and meetings.
    • Be willing and able to be based and travel within remote areas, where services are limited.
    • Must a female and be proficient in local languages (Kanuri, Shuwa, Hausa).
    • Be committed to Christian Aid mission, values and policy.

    Desirable:

    • Familiarity with Nutrition & FSL context in North eastern Nigeria.
    • Fluency in beneficiaries’ local languages.

    Programme Assistant, Protection

    Role Purpose

    • The Protection Assistant will support in implementing gender-sensitive community-level protection activities, protection monitoring, and information dissemination and referrals guided by Christian Aid’s policies and guidelines for managing information and relevant professional standards in protection work.

    Key Outcomes

    • Ensure the delivery of protection activities in the Humanitarian response
    • Undertake regular field visits with the Small Holder Farmer and FSL teams to identify and address, along with the sectorial teams, potential protection concerns arising from Christian Aid’s humanitarian response.
    • Prepare for and organize community consultations and community-based orientation sessions, in coordination with Christian Aid team(s) and other partners
    • Participates in developing and updating the mapping of services for threats and abuses (including GBV) that IDPs and Host Community members face in Christian Aid areas of operation
    • Lead and supervise assessment teams during thematic surveys, needs assessment and data collection for protection-related research
    • With support of the Protection Officer, follow-up with humanitarian actors about requests and invitations for community sessions
    • Monitors protection issues affecting IDPs and host population in areas of operation
    • Support the teams to strategize, plan for and ensure appropriate integration and mainstreaming of protection through all programme activities
    • With support of the Protection Officer, develop and update relevant Information, Education and Communication tools (leaflets, brochures, posters etc.)
    • Coordinate and organize regular internal mapping of services available in the area of intervention
    • Support the Protection Officer in developing safe programming and conflict-sensitive approaches to the humanitarian response
    • In collaboration with the Protection Officer, ensure program staff are fully trained on existing referral systems and relevant SOPs
    • Facilitate referral of protection issues to relevant service providers.
    • Conduct awareness raising and sensitization of relevant Protection messages and beneficiary’s rights.

    Other Task:

    • Assist in any other related matters necessary for the execution of the project.

    Role Context:

    • The Protection Assistant will carry out all Protection activities and will be responsible for the day to day implementation of the various protection activities in the field locations under his/her responsibility under the supervision of Protection Officer.
    • She/he will also coordinate local communities, in close coordination with Protection Officer and field teams.

    Working Relationships

    • External: Build strong relationships with partners, networks, donors, stakeholders and community beneficiaries.
    • Internal: Build strong relationship with program departments, FSL/WASH Staff, MEAL officers, program managers, M&E units and all in-country and global staff.

    Applied Skills / Knowledge and Expertise
    Essential:

    • University Degree in a relevant discipline (Law, Political Science, Social Science, Psychology or any other relevant Education profile),
    • Demonstrable experience (minimum of 2 years) in working with communities in humanitarian or development contexts.
    • Capacity and willingness to reside in the field location assigned to and regularly travel to other field locations where Christian Aid operates
    • Very good interpersonal skills, particularly in networking, working with communities, local civil society and local authorities.
    • Previous experience in using and adapting community-led approaches.
    • Good understanding and knowledge in application of do no harm, conflict sensitivity principles and IASC standards and ethics for protection work.
    • Good understanding of protection concerns, including GBV issues in displacement, human rights, and international humanitarian law
    • Proven analytical skills.
    • Understanding of monitoring processes, learning, adaptation and evaluation
    • Good levels of spoken and written English.
    • Commitment to humanitarian principles and action and to Christian Aid’s equal opportunity and gender policies
    • Excellent computer knowledge and skills of using Microsoft word, power point and excel.

    Desirable:

    • A Master's Degree
    • Previous experience in protection within a humanitarian response
    • Experience in working in Northeast Nigeria
    • Demonstrable experience in using participatory research and participatory assessment methodologies
    • Familiarity with the culture of conflict and/or disaster- affected populations, ability to develop respect from a wide range of people and strong ability to communicate effectively on sanitation and hygiene matters.
    • Fluency in the language of the working area (Hausa) is appreciated and the international language used in the humanitarian operation
    • Considerable knowledge and experience in Child Protection is an added advantage.

    Warehouse Assistant

    Role Purpose

    • Christian Aid Nigeria started implementing the Humanitarian Response programme in the year 2016 in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria. A major part of the response programme is commodity management and documentation.
    • Under the Small Holder Farmer’s project, Christian Aid is maintaining two warehouses in Biu and Michika respectively.
    • The Warehouse Assistant will support the Small Holder Farmer project implementation by effectively managing, tracking, and documenting commodities stored in the warehouse.

    Key Outcomes

    • Work with the Warehouse team to ensure effective and efficient management of commodities.
    • Timely update of commodity information on the last mile application
    • Accurate accountability for warehouse stock
    • Support the timely delivery of daily, weekly, and monthly reports
    • Effective coordination and communication between the Programmes and the warehouse team.
    • Carry out any other duty as may be assigned.

    • He/ She will promote a strong warehousing culture at the Base office(s) through continuous training and collaborative warehouse procedures with all field-based staff.

    Working Relationships

    • External: The role will be liaising with truck drivers for delivery of commodities, representatives from the donor during routine checks, community members, and other stakeholders during distributions.
    • Internal: Liaising with internal stakeholders and colleagues at all levels to achieve role objectives and purpose. Working within the network of the Operations unit family, sharing knowledge and best practice across the organization and with the team in Michika and Biu.

    Applied Skills / Knowledge and Expertise
    Essential:

    • A Diploma or Higher Diploma or Degree in Administration or related field from a recognized institution.
    • Familiar with the INGO sector
    • Familiar with Warehouse and commodity management in a similar role
    • Demonstrable numerical skills.
    • Good with Microsoft excel and other packages
    • Ability to use commodity reporting software such as Last Mile Application
    • Flexible and willing to work in a remote setting
    • Able to work with minimal supervision.
    • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.

    Desirable:

    • The ability to communicate in the local language is desirable.
    • Familiar with the northeast context.
