    Sales Manager

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    We are seeking a results-driven and commercially astute Sales Manager to lead our sales operations across western Nigeria. This is a critical leadership role within our FMCG business, responsible for driving revenue growth, optimising field team performance, and nurturing long-term relationships with key customers. The successful candidate will serve as the commercial backbone of our sales division — translating strategy into execution and ensuring excellence across all customer-facing activities.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Sales Operations & Coordination

    • Oversee and coordinate all sales activities across the division to ensure alignment with commercial targets and business objectives.
    • Develop and implement structured sales plans, territory strategies, and promotional activity schedules.
    • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance against set KPIs, taking proactive steps to close any gaps.
    • Collaborate with the marketing, supply chain, and logistics teams to ensure seamless execution of trade activities.

    Field Team Management

    • Lead, manage, and motivate the field sales team to achieve individual and collective sales targets.
    • Conduct regular field accompaniment visits, coaching sessions, and performance reviews.
    • Plan and optimise field coverage routes to maximise productivity and market penetration.
    • Identify training and development needs within the team and coordinate appropriate interventions.
    • Ensure adherence to company sales processes, standards, and customer service expectations in the field.

    Key Customer Relationship Management

    • Build and sustain strong, strategic relationships with key retail, wholesale, and distributor accounts.
    • Serve as the primary commercial point of contact for top-tier customers, managing joint business planning and negotiations.
    • Identify opportunities to grow share of shelf, secure additional listings, and enhance in-store visibility.
    • Proactively resolve customer complaints and service issues, maintaining trust and long-term partnership.

    Sales Data Analysis & Performance Reporting

    • Analyse sales data, market trends, and customer sell-out data to generate actionable insights.
    • Prepare and present comprehensive performance reports to senior management on a regular basis.
    • Identify underperforming territories, SKUs, or channels and recommend corrective action plans.
    • Leverage CRM and sales reporting tools to track pipeline activity, order history, and forecast accuracy.
    • Monitor competitor activity and market dynamics, providing timely intelligence to the commercial leadership team.

    Collections & Conflict Management

    • Oversee the end-to-end accounts receivable process, ensuring timely collection of payments in line with agreed credit terms.
    • Work closely with the finance team to manage outstanding balances, credit risk, and escalated accounts.
    • Mediate and resolve commercial disputes and customer conflicts in a fair, timely, and professional manner.
    • Implement structured processes to reduce bad debt exposure and improve the overall collections cycle.

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

    • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field; an MBA is an added advantage.
    • 5–8 years of progressive sales experience, with at least 3 years in a sales management or team leadership role within an FMCG environment.
    • Demonstrable track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets in a competitive, fast-paced market.
    • Solid experience managing and developing field sales teams across multiple territories.
    • Proven ability to manage key accounts and negotiate at a senior commercial level.
    • Familiarity with trade marketing principles, route-to-market strategies, and distributor management.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, SAP) is an advantage.
