    MCC Nigeria HR and Labor Consultant

    Objective of the Consultancy

    The primary purpose of this HR consultancy is to provide MCC with a comprehensive understanding of Nigeria's labor laws specifically related to salaries and benefits. Recognizing the complexities and challenges of navigating Nigeria's labor law landscape, MCC seeks expert guidance to ensure compliance and alignment of their HR practices with the legal requirements. The consultancy will focus on three key areas:

    • Reviewing benefits and their comparability with what is provided in the Nigeria Employment Law
    • Identifying Benefits Compliance,
    • Documenting Implications of Different Benefit Arrangements

    Key Deliverables for the Consultant

    The following are the deliverables that are expected to be fulfilled by the engaged consultant.

    The HR consultancy deliverables include:

    • Report on current staff benefits and their comparability with what is provided in the Nigeria employment law and assessment of benefits compliance as well as implications of different benefit arrangements. The report should have actionable recommendations.
    • Severance/Pension calculation guidance:
    • Zoom training for staff and leadership on Nigeria labor laws:
    • Updated copy of the Nigerian labor code
    • Provide regular updates and reports as required.
    • Review current NS contracts and advise if they are in compliance with requirement of local law.

    Quality Assurance

    • The Consultant is responsible for implementation and data quality, validity, consistency, and accuracy and to submit a well-structured report written in English language.

    Ethical Considerations

    • The consultant will be expected to commit and adhere to MCC’s code of conduct and organizational values to uphold its commitment to PSEA.

    Lines of Reporting

    • The Consultant will work closely with the Area Human Resources Coordinator
    • The consultant will report to SCAN Area Directors and will be supported with guidance and necessary tools for activities.

    Duration of the Consultancy

    • The consultant should include the number of days that they expect this work to take. Please note that a day is calculated as eight hours of work.

    Location of Consultancy

    • The consultant is expected to carry out activities for the duration of the consultancy in Jos, Plateau.

    Consultant Competencies and Required Skills

    MCC is seeking individual(s) with:

    • A University Degree in Human Resources Management, Law or a similar field.
    • Previous experience of working with INGOs within Jos State, Nigeria, especially on HR scope.
    • Experience in interacting with Nigeria Employment Law and/or updating National Staff manuals for organization.
    • Experience in Human Resources function especially employee and employer relations management, compensation administration (salary and benefit) and Pension calculation.
    • Have experience in organizing/leading discussions, facilitating training, working with local authorities and community groups.
    • Good knowledge of computer applications, especially Microsoft Office.
    • Excellent reporting writing skills.
    • Ability to work independently, and with limited supervision.
    • Good communication and public speaking skills.

    Desirable Requirements

    • Ownership of a deployable functional laptop and/or smartphone is an added advantage.
    • Proven interest & commitment to humanitarian and development principles
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Team player with a positive attitude.
    • Flexibility in a fast-paced, evolving work environment.
