    Legal Officer

    Job Summary

    • The Legal Officer will oversee legal affairs, draft and review agreements, ensure regulatory compliance, and support BOWDI’s advocacy efforts on gender rights, protection, and development. This role requires strong knowledge of Nigerian laws, excellent drafting skills, and a passion for social impact.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide legal advice and support on survivors wellbeing.
    • Draft, review, and interpret contracts, MoUs, and other legal documents.
    • Ensure compliance with Nigerian laws, regulatory requirements, and donor guidelines.
    • Support policy development, safeguarding frameworks, and governance structures.
    • Represent the organization in legal proceedings when necessary.
    • Support advocacy and legal awareness initiatives, particularly around women’s rights and protection.
    • Maintain updated statutory records and ensure timely filings with relevant authorities.
    • Provide training staff on compliance, contracts, and organizational policies.

    Qualifications & Requirement

    • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized institution.
    • Must hold an active and valid license to practice law in Nigeria (Nigerian Bar Association membership).
    • Minimum of 3–5 years post-call experience in legal practice or as an in-house counsel (NGO/Development sector experience an advantage).
    • Strong knowledge of corporate, labor, and NGO regulatory laws in Nigeria.
    • Experience in drafting, vetting, and managing contracts.
    • Understand GBV survivor centered approach.
    • Demonstrated commitment to human rights, gender equality, and social justice.
    • Excellent communication, research, and negotiation skills.
    • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
