    Gender Based Violence Officer (GBVO)

    Job Summary

    • The GBV Officer will be responsible for the effective implementation and technical oversight of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention, response, and case management interventions in line with CATAI, partner, and donor requirements.
    • The position will provide day-to-day supervision of GBV case management services, ensure the safe and ethical use of the GBV Information Management System (GBVIMS), and uphold survivor-centred principles across all interventions.
    • The GBV Officer will coordinate with internal teams, partners, and service providers to ensure quality service delivery, strengthen referral pathways, support safe spaces, and contribute to evidence-based programming through accurate data management, reporting, and analysis.
    • The role also supports capacity building of staff, volunteers, and community actors while promoting gender-sensitive and accountable programming.

    Job Responsibilities
    Program Support:

    • Oversee the implementation and quality of GBV prevention and response activities across all operational sites.
    • Develop and adapt Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), guidelines, and tools for GBV teams in line with Protection global standards and national protocols.
    • Collaborate with Project Managers and GBV supervisors to ensure the technical quality of GBV activities.
    • Facilitate the integration of GBV services into broader health and protection programs, ensuring a holistic approach to service delivery.
    • Support the collection, analysis, and reporting of sex- and age-disaggregated data (quantitative, qualitative, and anecdotal) to inform programming and meet beneficiary needs.
    • Lead project planning and oversee activity implementation and budget utilization to ensure efficient use of resources.
    • Ensure effective project monitoring and evaluation systems are in place, applying appropriate tools to track progress against indicators.
    • Promote meaningful participation of stakeholders, including CATAI programme staff, partners, and community members.
    • Develop and implement awareness-raising and staff capacity-building initiatives on GBV prevention and response.
    • Support the development and dissemination of IEC and communication materials (leaflets, posters, brochures) on GBV.
    • Conduct training for volunteers, school counsellors, and social workers to strengthen GBV prevention and case management capacity.
    • Act as the focal point for all gender-related and GBV programming issues.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Capacity Building:

    • Development and delivery of training programs for GBV staff, community stakeholders,, and partners.
    • Provide continuous technical support and mentoring to GBV teams to strengthen their skills and knowledge.

    Monitoring and Evaluation:

    • Analyze data and feedback from the field to identify gaps and areas for improvement in GBV service delivery.
    • Ensure regular reporting on the quality and impact of GBV interventions.

    Supervision and Reporting:

    • Conduct regular field visits to GBV activities, providing on-site guidance and feedback to local teams.
    • Conduct regular supervision and prepare detailed reports on GBV activities, challenges, and successes for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ensure the principle of ‘Do No Harm’ is observed and upheld in all the engagements
    • Produce monthly data and regular narrative reports of cases managed in collaboration with the Senior GBV coordinator (line manager) and the M&E Officers.
    • Provide weekly case updates to the GBV coordinator,, including new cases identified, number of referrals, cases closed, and follow-ups.
    • Ensure the principle of safety and confidentiality of beneficiaries’ data is upheld.
    • Submit intake forms to M&E officers to ensure a proper database of cases and analysis of reported cases.
    • Participate in Bi-Weekly supervision meetings with GBV/PSS officers.
    • Maintain positive coordination and relationships with other partners at the field level
    • Supports training for GBV Caseworkers
    • Facilitate the setting up of an information desk at the women's and girls' safe spaces where adolescents and women of reproductive age can access Sexual Reproductive Health information.
    • Contribute within the WGSS to the identification of at-risk girls, boys, and women and ensure proper documentation.
    • Support GBV at-risk individuals or survivors by referring them when necessary, and in respect of their

    Requirement:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (Social Work, Development Studies, Humanitarian Affairs, Gender Studies, or related disciplines).
    • Minimum of 3–4 years of professional experience in humanitarian settings, including at least 2 years of direct work with GBV survivors using a survivor-centred, rights-based, and multi-sectoral approach.
    • Demonstrated experience using the Gender-Based Violence Information Management System (GBVIMS) for case documentation, data entry, data quality assurance, and ethical information management.
    • Proven ability to navigate GBVIMS tools (including intake forms, incident classification, consent management, and report generation) in line with inter-agency standards.
    • Experience in supervising or supporting GBVIMS data processes, including confidentiality protocols, secure data storage, and information sharing agreements.
    • 2–3 years of experience working with health-focused organizations is an added advantage.
    • Excellent knowledge of international standards and guidelines on GBV in humanitarian settings, including IASC GBV Guidelines, GBV Case Management SOPs, and survivor-centred approaches.
    • Demonstrated ability to assess, supervise, and coordinate technical GBV prevention and response activities in humanitarian and recovery contexts.
    • Experience working in North-East and/or North-West Nigeria is highly desirable.
    • Proven experience in capacity building of local partners, community actors, and State Ministry of Health (SMOH) staff.
    • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • Fluency in local languages (written and spoken) is an added advantage.

    Skills:

    • Strong practical skills in GBVIMS navigation, case data entry, data validation, and anonymized reporting, with strict adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards.
    • Ability to translate GBVIMS data into programmatic insights, trends analysis, and evidence-based reporting.
    • Individual and group training skills in GBV prevention, response, and information management.
    • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and contribute positively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
    • Strong organizational, coordination, oral, and written communication skills.
    • Excellent narrative and statistical report-writing skills.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
    • Demonstrated diplomacy, professionalism, and understanding of international humanitarian and human rights principles.
    • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and stakeholders, including INGOs, local partners, government officials, and community leaders.
    • Strong coordination and networking skills, with the ability to engage constructively across sectors.
    • Flexibility to work irregular hours under emergency or rapidly changing humanitarian contexts.
    • Demonstrated experience operationalizing GBV principles, Human Rights Law, Humanitarian Principles, and other relevant international standards.
    • Solid understanding and application of the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS).
    • Disciplined, well-organized, deadline-oriented, and adaptable to multicultural work environments, with respect for CATAI’s core values.
