Core Mission
The Assistant General Manager of Human Resources will serve as a pivotal business leader, directly partnering with the executive team to translate complex business imperatives into a powerful and integrated people strategy. You will be accountable for ensuring the human capital is a source of competitive advantage, anticipating talent needs, mitigating operational risk, and cultivating a leadership culture capable of steering the organisation through market cycles and transformational change.
Responsibilities
Organizational & Executive Leadership
- Serve as a trusted counsel to the senior leadership team on all matters about organisational design, executive talent, and strategic workforce planning.
- Diagnose and proffer solutions that enhance operational efficiency and agility across upstream and downstream business units.
- Spearhead culture-shaping initiatives that reinforce the core values and directly support business resilience.
Executive Talent & Succession Stewardship
- Own the end-to-end strategy for acquiring, developing, and retaining mission-critical talent, with a sharp focus on specialised technical and leadership roles.
- Design and implement a robust succession planning framework that secures the leadership pipeline for key positions.
- Direct strategic learning and development interventions to future-proof the workforce.
Governance, Risk & Regulatory Acumen
- Ensure governance and compliance with all Nigerian labour laws and statutory requirements (PENCOM, ITF, NSITF, HMO).
- Command the integrity of all HR audits and regulatory reporting, safeguarding the organisation against operational and reputational risk.
- Direct a total rewards philosophy that is benchmarked to ensure market competitiveness and alignment with strategic retention goals.
Performance & Organizational Effectiveness
- Champion a performance management system that aligns individual goals to company objectives, driving accountability at all levels.
- Leverage HR analytics and business intelligence to provide the executive team with insight into workforce trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Lead change initiatives, ensuring seamless integration and minimal operational disruption.
ndustrial Relations & Stakeholder Authority
- Manage employee and industrial relations with an approach that protects company interests.
- Identify and maintain strategic relationships with key external stakeholders, including regulators and community representatives, representing the company with authority.
- Uphold and promote the highest standards of HSSE, ensuring these principles are deeply embedded within the people\'s agenda.
Operational Excellence & Functional Leadership
- Provide strategic oversight for all HR operations, including payroll, HRIS, and data management.
- Lead, mentor, and elevate the HR team, building a function recognised for its business partnership, expertise, and impact.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 12-15 years of progressive, strategic human resources leadership experience.
- No less than 5 years in a senior HR leadership role, with demonstrable success within the upstream/downstream oil & gas sector or a related industry.
- Bachelor\'s degree in a relevant field is essential; a Master\'s degree in Business Administration, HR or a related discipline is preferred.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CIPM, SHRM-SCP, CIPD, GPHR) are considered a significant asset.
- Proven track record of designing and executing HR strategies that have directly influenced business outcomes, including organisational transformation, talent pipeline development, and M&A integration support.
