    Advisor - Employee and Industrial Relations

    Reports To: Manager - Industrial Relations and Support Services

    Division: Human Resources

    Mission:

    • To advise, guide and support managers with all matters relating to employee relations
    • Effective case management of people related issues such as: disciplinary procedures, grievance, and absence management.  
    • Developing effective relationships with the business to promote good employee relations across the organisation.
    • Monitoring trends in employment practices and advising on appropriate proactive action.

    Description:

    • Industrial Relations (IR)
      • Serve as primary liaison with trade unions and employee representatives.
      • Support negotiation of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).
      • Participate in collective bargaining meetings and dispute resolution sessions.
      • Interpret and implement agreed CBA provisions.
      • Monitor compliance with labour regulations and industrial agreements.
      • Prepare documentation for mediation, arbitration, or industrial court matters where necessary.
      • Track and analyze industrial climate indicators (grievances, disputes, union trends, strike risks).
      • Manage union communications with professionalism and neutrality.
    • Employee Relations (ER)
      • Facilitates MTNN Value Champion (VC) governance and engagement by tracking monthly regional engagement sessions in line with the VC charter and frameworks.
      • Advise management on disciplinary procedures, grievance handling, and workplace investigations.
      • Support investigations into misconduct, harassment, bullying, and policy violations.
      • Draft disciplinary notices, infraction charge advise/notice and all other documentations relating to the disciplinary process.
      • Ensure due process and procedural fairness in all employee-related matters.
    • Compliance & Risk Management
      • Ensure compliance with Nigerian labour laws including, Labour Act, Trade Unions Act etc. as well as other relevant case law and Industrial Court precedents.
      • Review and update HR policies to align with evolving regulations.
      • Conduct internal audits on employee relations compliance.
      • Support litigation management in collaboration with Legal.
      • Deep understanding of Nigerian Labour Act, Trade Unions Act, NICN processes.
      • Ability to interpret legal provisions and apply them operationally.
    • Conflict Resolution & Workplace Mediation
      • Provide advisory support in mediation of disputes between employees and management.
      • Facilitate resolution of team-level conflicts before escalation.
      • Provide advisory support during restructuring, redundancy, or role changes.
      • Support change management initiatives to minimize industrial disruption.
    • Advisory to Leadership
      • Provide strategic advice to business leaders on workforce risk exposure.
      • Prepare ER/IR dashboards and reports for executive review.
      • Identify early warning signals of employee dissatisfaction or union agitation.
      • Coach line managers on handling difficult employee conversations.
    • Documentation & Reporting
      • Maintain accurate records of; disciplinary cases, grievances, union engagements, industrial disputes etc.
      • Prepare reports for regulatory bodies when required.
      • Develop trend analysis reports for HR leadership.
      • Maintain records of all industrial and employee relations events and activities.

    Education:

    • First degree in any related discipline 
    • Fluent in English

    Experience:

    • 3 – 7 years of experience in an area of specialization; with experience with working with others.
    • Experience working in a medium organization
