Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Distribution Network Technician to support the installation, inspection, maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair, testing, and restoration of 11kV electricity distribution networks for our client Telmek Global Resources.

The successful candidate will have practical experience working with both overhead lines and underground cable systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient network operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, maintain, and repair 11kV overhead distribution lines, including poles, conductors, insulators, fuses, and surge arresters.
• Support the installation, laying, inspection, repair, jointing, and termination of 11kV underground cables.
• Inspect and maintain RMUs, switchgear, isolators, circuit breakers, and distribution transformer connections.
• Conduct routine network patrols and preventive maintenance to identify and address potential faults.
• Assist with fault detection, diagnosis, emergency repairs, and restoration of electricity supply.
• Carry out approved electrical testing, including insulation resistance, continuity, and phase identification checks.
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, permit-to-work procedures, isolation requirements, and company HSE policies.
• Maintain accurate technical records, fault reports, maintenance logs, and equipment documentation.

Qualifications and Experience

• ND, HND, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline. Recognized electrical trade qualifications may also be considered.
• Minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience in 11kV electricity distribution network operations and maintenance.
• Proven practical experience in both overhead line maintenance and underground medium-voltage cable systems.
• Knowledge of 11kV cable jointing, termination, RMUs, switchgear, distribution transformers, and network accessories.
• Experience in electrical testing, fault diagnosis, and preventive maintenance.
• Relevant technical and safety certifications will be an advantage.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Strong technical knowledge of 11kV overhead and underground distribution networks.
• Practical cable installation, jointing, and termination skills.
• Ability to identify network defects and troubleshoot electrical faults.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, network diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Good communication, teamwork, and reporting skills.
• Strong safety awareness and ability to work effectively in field environments.

Key Performance Expectations

Performance will be measured by:

• Compliance with electrical safety and HSE requirements.
• Quality and timely completion of maintenance and repair activities.
• Effective fault response and reduction of recurring network faults.
• Reliability of cable joints, terminations, and overhead line repairs.
• Accurate technical reporting and proper equipment management.
• Contribution to improved network reliability and reduced outages.

Working Conditions

This is a field-based position involving work on overhead lines, underground cables, distribution substations, transformer installations, and switching equipment. Occasional emergency call-outs, overtime, weekend work, and work at heights may be required, subject to appropriate training and authorization.

Critical Safety Requirement

All work must comply with approved electrical safety rules, isolation procedures, permit-to-work requirements, and network operating instructions. Only competent and authorized personnel may undertake switching, testing, and other restricted electrical activities.
