    Quarry Manager

    Overview

    • Quarry manager objective is to organize and coordinate quarrying activities for the exploitation and supply of basic raw materials (limestone. shale and red alluvium) in the right quality and quantity.
    • Quarry manager is responsible for the management of quarry outsourcing contract and co-responsibility for the maintenance of the KFUI to be <14.

    Responsibilities

    • Take a lead in the enforcement of Lafarge safety rules and guidelines for mines operation.
    • Write procedures to implement safe practices by all quarry contractors and sub-contractors.
    • Ensure that all safety rules and regulations in the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Acts of 2008 are strictly adhered to in the operational environment of the quarry.
    • Oversee the day-to-day operational details of the quarry by:
    • Monitoring the activities of the overburden contractors engaged in the overburden activities.
    • Carrying out routine inspection of the perimeter drainage; plan and implement cleaning schedule to avoid flooding.
    • Monitoring and maintaining the overburden tip restoration process.
    • Prepares the annual volume budgets based on production requirements in conjunction with the production manager.
    • Prepares the annual capital and revenue budgets for the quarry operation in conjunction with production manager.
    • Performs monthly cost analysis (budget vs. actual) of the quarry operations.
    • Oversee the operational and strategic development of Quarry operations by:
    • Carrying out mining activities in accordance with the mining plan.
    • Defining mid-term mining plan in collaboration with the TC.
    • Defining short term mining plan to meet quality and KFUI targets
    • Putting in place control mechanisms to achieve quality targets (sampling, blending use of appropriate software and Raw Mix Optimization) in collaboration with process and quality.
    • Carrying out quarry development activities in accordance to quarry rehabilitation plan.
    • Ensure that the quality and physical properties of the raw material produced from quarry meet the process specifications.
    • Ensures adequate supply of quarry consumables like explosives and its accessories.
    • Ensures safekeeping and safe use of explosives by following recommended standards for storage and utilization of explosives.
    • Serves as liaison officer between Lafarge and relevant government regulatory agency for mine operations.
    • Obtain and maintain authorisations and permits.
    • Identify and action opportunities to augment reserves.
    • Prevent encroachment of Company property.
    • Have dialogue and public relations with stakeholders.
    • Do topographical survey on a regular basis in DWG or DXF, 3D format
    • Program overburden stripping programming, contract negotiation, award & supervision.
    • Keeping up to date with relevant government legislation and maintain good working relationship with relevant government agency.
    • Controls quarrying activities to comply with group environmental standards (Air quality, noise, vibration and water). Measure compliance and have an emergency strategy.
    • Implement quarry rehabilitation plan.
    • Defines the mission and objectives of his team and carries out their performance reviews, promotes his team motivation, skills and developments through coaching.
    • Develop and implement training plan for his team and ensure they are relevant to their career development.
    • Deputize for production manager.
    • Comply with EMS Quarry Instrumentation activities
    • Ensure involvement in the implementation and maintenance of integrated management system in the plant.

    Education / Qualifications

    • B.Sc / HND in Mining Engineering, Geology or a subject related to mining.

    Experience:

    • 5/8 years experience in quarry operations.

    Knowledge & Skills
    Technical Competencies:

    • Good knowledge raw material chemistry.
    • Computer literate (Word, excel, MS project, lotus note).
    • Good knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9002)
    • Good planning skills.

    Mechanical Planner

    Overview

    • The Mechanical Planner is responsible for preparing all planned activities that have to be executed by the maintenance team, service companies or contractors. 
    • In that role, the Planner will work closely with the Execution Team, inspectors and the production team on the following tasks and responsibilities in order to reinforce the day-to-day preparation and job planning.

    Responsibilities

    • Improve the content and quality of information on work orders and eventually put them in progress after section heads approves them.
    • Add pertinent information to the work order, as required, to facilitate the comprehension of the execution team.
    • Define clearly the scope of work to be performed.
    • Establish the preparatory work required prior to scheduled equipment down time.
    • Develop a detailed job plan with all the work sequences involved to adequately
    • complete the repairs, as well as equipment downtime and man-hours required.
    • Determine and list all the safety procedures associated with the work to be performed.
    • Develop a tool list specific to the job to be performed.
    • Provide a parts list with reference numbers and exact location for every work order and ensure that all required parts are in stock before job scheduling.
    • Ensure all technical specifications and special instructions are provided on paper to the Supervisor and tradesmen.
    • Provide the machinery history information with the job plan.
    • Determine the cost involved for parts and supplies for each work order.
    • Ensure that once a job is completed, the WO is filled out properly and that meaningful information is entered into the machinery history file and eventually close the work order.
    • Inform the section foremen when a job is ready for scheduling.
    • Establish and maintain with the supervisors and the stores department, a system for proper storage of pre-works and parts for pending work.
    • The incumbent will work with the Storeroom supervisor to update and maintain the equipment parts catalogue, and develop parts catalogues for existing equipment that have none as well as develop, equipment tool list for jobs that require such.
    • The Mechanical Planner will work with the Storeroom Supervisor to review and update parts min-max levels
    • The Planner will be responsible for improving and maintaining the equipment files and history (paper and electronic) in conjunction with the draughtsman.
    • The Planner will develop and review all schedules on a regular basis, and ensure that they are up to date and contain all pertinent information.
    • In collaboration with the Purchasing officers & Storeroom Supervisor, the Engineer will ensure that the inventory and sources of spare parts are consistent with the Lafarge standards, plant equipment reliability and economic constraints. He will also ensure materials and parts conformity upon receipt.
    • Plan major equipment annual overhauls.
    • Draw up the technical specifications for the purchase of the spare parts.
    • Manages general and specific technical documentation.
    • Manages the equipment codification.
    • Assist the Methods Manager with the preparation of the annual budget and control of it once approved.
    • Participate in the Maintenance Supervisor On-Call Program.
    • Comply with EMS Methods Instrumentation activities
    • Ensure involvement in the implementation and maintenance of integrated management system in the plant

    Education / Qualifications

    • University Degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • Computer literacy is essential
    • Knowledge in Maximo is necessary.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years of field work experience in a relevant industry.

    Process Manager

    Overview

    • The primary responsibility of the Process Manager is to run the process department in accordance with the annual and the long-term plan.
    • They will also be participating in the advanced management cycle  for the functions which he/she oversees to the advanced management cycle.

    The missions that have the greatest impact are:

    • As part of the management team, promote safety in the plant.
    • Improve plant reliability and performance by optimizing the process.
    • Implement the process related Best Practices and standards.
    • Contribute to the reduction of production costs by optimizing the process.
    • Provide the plant with a medium and long term analysis of the prospects and prepare the basics for necessary process/environment related investments.
    • Make sure that the production of the raw mix, clinker and cement conforms to quality and production demands.
    • Participate and contribute to professional networks in his field.
    • Coordinate and develop people reporting to them.

    Responsibilities
    Process:

    • He or she is responsible for improving the performance of the plant's workshops in the short, medium and long term. To do this, he or she must :
    • Monitor the process performance of the entire plant on a day to day basis and define corrective actions together with maintenance and production.
    • Define process optimisation actions together with quality, production and maintenance; monitor the actions and the results.
    • Organize on a daily basis process inspections and review of performance.
    • Identify and conduct studies, tests and measurements within the Process department in order to improve performance.
    • Define the day to day set points.
    • Ensure correctness of sensors.
    • Ensure the quality of process data reported.
    • Define an audit plan and supervise the audits to detect irregularities and find potential improvements.
    • Contribute to fuel cost optimization (optimization of lowest fuel cost) by ensuring (optimizing) process condition which allows a maximum utilization of alternative fuel and raw materials.
    • Ensure progress in control loop optimisation and high-level automation.
    • Ensure existence and correctness of procedures.
    • Ensure that audits and studies are documented and shared.
    • Forster the process awareness within all departments in the plant.
    • Promote exchanges between the Processes and Production departments.
    • Participation in the plant managers’ network.
    • Coordinate actions with the Technical Centre/ CIP/MSGN.

    Environment:
    Depending on the plant organization:

    • Define together with the Environmental manager the process conditions which allows the plant to comply current and future with all environmental regulations.
    • Ensure together with production that process is operated in a way to minimize emission.

    Quarry: Raw Mix Preparation:

    • He or she is responsible (together with the quarry manager) for the optimisation of the raw mix logic to ensure a raw mix at the desired composition with a minimum of variations.
    • Ensure that there is a regular communication between the quarry, process and quality for adjusting the raw mix to the problems of burning.

    Plant Management Cycle:

    • Promote exchanges between his or her own departments and the other departments in the plant.
    • Promote the use of LH information and knowledge tools (product platform, Best Practices, Vade-Mecum, Team workspace, etc.).
    • Make the different departments teams aware of the environment aspects.
    • Run information meetings and make his or her teams aware of safety matters and check that safety regulations are respected.
    • Formulate the vision and set the priorities of the plant with the Production/Operations manager.
    • Define the Plant Development Plan (PDP) with the CIP/MSGN contacts support.
    • Define investments needs relevant to improved plant performance, CAPEX budgets and ensure execution of related projects.
    • Prepare and participate in the plant OH&R review profiling talent management.

    Industrial Excellence:

    • Ensure that the production commitments in terms of volumes, quality, deadlines, cost and environmental standards are respected.
    • Optimise and adapt the production process and equipment in line with the PDP.

    Stakeholder Relations:

    • Represent the company in front of local authorities and union representatives. Promote company values and image in the local social, economic and environmental communities. Ensure that the laws and regulations pertaining to the activity are respected as well as protection of the environment in compliance with group standards.

    People Development:

    • Induct new recruits, monitor the development of potentials, and propose training schemes for his or her teams in order to optimize their skills.
    • Build and facilitate training courses inside and outside the plant.

    Education / Qualifications

    • Degree in Chemical Engineering or in General Engineering with process engineering as the main subject.
    • Certified by LafargeHolcim as a SPREAD/PPE engineer.
    • Good knowledge of the physico-chemical products, of relevant parameters and standards applicable to cement manufacturing.
    • Good knowledge of statistical process control methods and experimental design.
    • Good knowledge of project management methods.

    Experience:

    • 5 to 7 years’ experience in a process role depending on the size and challenges of the position.

    • Level III in process in a complex plant, otherwise level II)
    • Level I in quality control.
    • Level I in Environment.
    • Level I in automation.
    • In-depth knowledge of the cement making process.
    • General knowledge of physics, chemistry, science of heat and computing.
