    New Business Development Manager

    Job Summary:

    The primary purpose of this role is to support the Country Director and Project/Program Managers, in identifying funding opportunities; developing, leading and strengthening fundraising strategies and tactics; and responding to major contract/grant opportunities, from bi-lateral, multilateral agencies, national governments, private foundations, and the private sector.

    Program/Practice/Department Overview:

    The New Business Development Manager is part of the Nigeria team and will report to the Country Director with a dotted line reporting to the Regional Program Development Manager, and working with other team members in TechnoServe. The New Business/Program Development department of TechnoServe is responsible for fundraising and partnerships, including identifying and pursuing new opportunities relevant to TechnoServe’s global and country-specific strategies within our areas of excellence.

    Primary Functions & Responsibilities:

    The responsibilities of this position include:

    New Business Development:

    • Working with the Country Director to champion the design and implementation of comprehensive fundraising strategies and annual plans with specific targets.
    • Primarily supporting but occasionally leading strong TechnoServe relationships with potential donors, stakeholders, and partners.
    • Leading and/or supporting opportunity assessments in Nigeria’s priority/areas of excellence.
    • Liaising with public sector funding agencies, institutional foundations, corporations, and other private donors to acquire and maintain an in-depth knowledge of their mission, organization, policies, procedures and key decision-makers.
    • Identifying new opportunities that align with TechnoServe’s areas of excellence and TechnoServe Nigeria’s strategy and leading the pursuit of these opportunities in collaboration with the Country Director as well as the regional and global PD teams.
    • Managing the proposal writing processes for key opportunities with public/private funding, at the country level
    • Developing winning proposals in collaboration with local teams and TNS regional and/or development divisions in coordination with the relevant staff of the project team and New Business development division,
    • Coordinating the review and maintenance of project lead summaries, the new business pipeline, opportunity tracker, the new business resource prioritization matrix, new business opportunity assessments and other requirements of the new business process.

    Program Design and Development:

    • Supporting the formulation of project strategies and work plans. In particular:
    • Support project design and development in alignment with donor requirements, rules and regulations.
    • Working with the Regional Program Development Manager to ensure high-quality start-up of confirmed new programs.
    • In the case of programs which have been confirmed but where there is no on-the-ground capacity to ensure a successful transition from the proposal phase to project implementation, the New Business Development Manager will work with the Regional Program Development Manager, the Deputy Country Director and Country teams to ensure high-quality program start-up.
    • Assist the Project Technical Team in the implementation of relevant components as well as monitor activities relating to TechnoServe Nigeria projects
    • Any other tasks that may be assigned.

    Basic Qualifications:

    The following qualifications are required for the role:

    • A minimum of an undergraduate degree (BSc) in Social Sciences, Business Management, Agriculture, Economics or a relevant field. A Masters’ degree in a relevant field is desirable, but not required.
    • A minimum of 7 years of experience with a BSc. is required or 5 years’ experience with a Masters degree.
    • In the required years of experience, a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in New Business Development and writing successful proposals is required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Additional qualifications that are desirable., but not required include:

    • Experience working in Nigeria or West Africa
    • At least 2-3 years’ experience in the total required years of experience working with institutional, bilateral, multilateral donors and foundations is required.
    • Experience supporting project design and project start up.
    • Extensive knowledge of and experience working in the agriculture and food systems is desirable.

    Travel: This position requires minimal travel.

    Finance and Budget Manager

    Job Summary:

    Reporting to the Program Director, the Finance and Budget Manager will oversee the financial operations and ensure effective budget management. His/Her responsibilities will encompass a wide range of financial activities, including budgeting, financial reporting, activity management, contract review, and compliance with organizational financial regulations.

    Program/Practice/Department Overview:

    The Inspiring Good Nutrition Initiatives Through Enterprise (IGNITE) will build on the foundations of the Technical Assistance Accelerator Prelude (TAAP) program to achieve increased motivation and fortification capability of millers leading to increased proportion of fortified staple foods and conversion of a critical mass of millers to improved FF practices across at least eight countries.

    IGNITE will facilitate the activation and expansion of a catalytic collective impact initiative – the Millers 4 Nutrition (M4N) coalition – to globally coordinate and locally implement an ultimately sustainable model for delivery of technical assistance (TA) and other services to millers. These TA services, and associated engagement platforms, will establish business cases and motivate and develop capabilities of food processors

    to improve their performance in the fortification of selected staple foods and condiments, and thereby to achieve large-scale and relevant (contributing to the diets of large proportions of populations in countries where staple FF has been identified as part of national nutrition strategies) coverage on a sustained basis. The IGNITE program will be implemented in eight priority countries namely Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan and Tanzania with India, Kenya, and Nigeria serving as the operational hubs.

    Primary Functions & Responsibilities:

    Budget Preparation and Monitoring

    • Lead the two projects budget development closely linked to work plans
    • Build capacity of country teams to understand and manage the budget.
    • Track expenditure against the program budgets
    • Support the annual and mid-year budgeting, forecasting and planning, and ensure that they are consistent with TechnoServe’s guidelines and procedures
    • Lead the quarterly burn rate calls with HQ finance management, and the relevant Country and/ or Regional Directors.
    • Lead preparation of budget realignment and budget modification requests when needed

    Financial Management, Reporting and Analysis

    • Provide financial and accounting oversight to the IGNITE & DQAQC operations.
    • Establish and ensure compliance with budget codes.
    • Ensure that all financial data recorded in the financial management system across the IGNITE & DQAQC countries have the mandatory accounting dimensions.
    • Review accounting transactions and work with in-country controllers to fix any errors as well as ensuring timely completion of month-end procedures.
    • Lead on any project audit
    • Ensure all accounting program data is updated in the system, reconciled and fully supported in accordance with the donor rules and regulations.
    • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of quarterly and annual financial reporting to the donors.
    • Undertake regular visits to the country sites to monitor financial systems, troubleshoot financial issues, and provide capacity building to staff.

    Grants Management

    • Support the due diligence process with regard to all the project sub grantees.
    • With input from country program managers, manage and monitor the matching grants program.
    • Provide guidance and training as necessary to all potential subgrantees on the requirements of the proposal preparation and submission process, financial management requirements, and any other administrative requirements pertinent to the grant fund.
    • Review disbursement to the program partners including review of partners’ financial reports and documentation.
    • Monitor expenditure against partner grant budgets. 

    Compliance with Finance Policies

    • Working closely with the operations analyst, oversee procurement processes including tendering process, supplier selection, to ensure procurement solutions that meet project needs are compliant with all applicable regulations and standards of accountability, ethics and integrity.
    • Maintain high levels of confidentiality in relation to sensitive and confidential commercial and business financial decisions and issues.
    • Ensure that all processes and procurements adhere to corporate policy, legal and contractual obligations, and corporate and donor standards
    • Oversee the project’s fixed asset register as maintained by the operations specialist
    • Review the consultant’s folder maintained by the operations specialist to ensure completeness of records.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree + 7 years’ experience, or Master’s degree + 5 years’ experience preferably in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field,
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably in international development
    • Advanced proficiency in Excel.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Technical qualifications or working experience as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or 
    • equivalent.
    • Experience with BMGF funded programs

    Required Languages 

    • Fluency in English, verbal and written.

    Travel 

    • Should be able and open to travel internationally up to 25%

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Proven analytic and budgeting skills, including the ability to model the costs of different program designs.
    • Ability to control and manage financial policy and procedures.
    • Strong financial management and financial reporting skills
    • Strong communication skills, including effective coordination with remote teams.
