    Compliance Officer

    Job Summary

    • To drive regulatory and compliance functions across all business units in Meristem.
    • Ensure that compliance policies of Meristem are in line with current regulatory requirements and applicable best practice.

    Job Details

    • Collation and timely submission of weekly, monthly and quarterly returns/reports to the regulators i.e. NFIU, SEC, NSE & CBN;
    • Liaising with the regulators on all regulatory matters;
    • Tracking regulatory pronouncements and release of new Rules/Policies/Guidelines as they affect Meristem’s operations;
    • Attend promptly to all enquiries and correspondences from the Regulators;
    • Ensuring customers due diligence and validation of KYC information;
    • Conduct regular checks on the activities of Business Units to ascertain level of compliance with internal/operational policies and procedures;
    • Coordination of AML/CFT awareness within the organization;
    • Keep abreast of trends/ development taking place in the capital market;
    • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

    Timeline for Deliverables

    • Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly submission of returns/reports to the regulators;
    • Weekly reports of the activities of the department.

    Any other assignment as may be assigned by your supervisor

    Requirements

    • Minimum of three years' experience in the capital market industry;
    • Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent. 
    • Registration with SEC as a Sponsored Individual (will be an added advantage).

    Internal Control Officer

    Job Summary

    • To carry out an independent appraisal of the effectiveness of the policies, procedures and standards by which Meristem's financial, physical and information resources are managed
    • To ensure strict adherence to internal and external policies, controls and procedures and maintenance of quality service delivery within the company.

    Job Details

    • Design, implement and continuously review internal control and audit procedures
    • Review Daily Trade Postings and matching same with CSCS Trade Details and ensuring correct posting of the CSCS/In-house Net Trades into MERISTEM Trading Account.
    • Regular review of Audit Trail of Reversals, Transfers and Payment of funds
    • Perform Monthly and Quarterly review of Statutory Reports to CSCS, SEC and NSE
    • Perform rendition of weekly/monthly returns to EFCC on Anti-Money Laundering
    • Periodic review of General Ledgers (Cash Advance & Petty Cash inclusive), Trial Balance and other Final Accounts
    • Continually communicate key organizational controls, policies, approval limits within the company 
    • Document Exceptions arising from Internal Control Investigations and make recommendations to the Management for review and approval.
    • Conduct thorough and objective examination of financial transactions records
    • Prepare and present Internal Control reports identifying weaknesses and suggesting new procedures, controls and policies
    • Assist external auditors (acting as intermediary between External Auditors and Accounts Dept) during external audits to meet their requirements and to resolve any issues identified
    • Periodically monitor process execution in operational areas from start to finish
    • Liaison with Risk Management Committee to develop risk management strategies to mitigate identified risks in the organization.
    • Ensure daily & weekly backup of data with copies sent to the offsite location and Montgomery storage vaults.
    • Weekly review of Bank reconciliation & Statements
    • Document Exceptions arising from Internal Control Investigations and make recommendations to the Management for review and approval.
    • Take inventory of fixed assets and ensure regular update of the asset register
    • Monitor quality of internal and external procurement processes for the company
    • Conduct thorough and objective examination of financial transactions records
    • Prepare and present Internal Control reports identifying weaknesses and suggesting new procedures, controls and policies
    • Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time
    • Generation of Weekly Internal Control Report to the MD/CEO
    • Any other assignment as may be assigned by your supervisor

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent.
    • A good first degree in any management science/social science related discipline preferably in accounting. Finance, Business Administration & Economics
    • Professional qualification e.g. ACA, ACCA, ACIB, CISA or MBA will be an added advantage.
    • Experience with a similar position in the banking sector/financial services sector.

    Accountant

    Job Summary

    • To ensure transactions are recorded timely and guarantee the correctness, accuracy and validity of financial information.
    • To plan, monitor and manage cash flow and liquidity.

    Job Details

    • Provide monthly management report by the 1st week of the following month.
    • Prepare an annual budget by 31st May each year in conjunction with the CEO and other management staff.

    • Ensure all balance sheet items are reconciled prior to audit and appropriate working papers are prepared.
    • Scrutinize cheque requisitions and proforma invoices for purchase before signing by the CEO.
    • Maintain adequate insurance cover for the business.
    • Monitor current interest rates being offered by financial institutions to ensure the best return on Meristem Registrars' deposits.
    • Maintain assets register and undertake regular assets checks.
    • Collect all due debts from clients within 60days after billing.
    • The monthly payroll is processed accurately and in timely manner.
    • Control petty cash system-ensure petty cash registered is balanced before being topped up.
    • Monitor the budget to ensure spending is being controlled.
    • Practice customer satisfaction metrics to enable other departments carry out their works smoothly.
    • Visit and negotiate bills with new and existing clients.
    • Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance to accounting policies and procedures.
    • Ensure tax deductions and pension contributions are remitted within 10 days of the following month.
    • Meet with relevant regulatory authorities on tax matters and get the best position for the company.
    • Compiles and prepares daily and weekly cash summaries and initiate weekly cash flow analysis and historical performances.
    • Prepare reports and financial statements for management and company's auditor's use.
    • Initiate plans and advise on budget and account control.
    • Ensure due accounting procedures are observed.
    • Verify and validate accounting information.

    Requirements

    • B.Sc. Accounting, Finance, or another related field 
    • ACA, ACCA, Certification with Institute of Internal Auditors and CISA will be an added advantage.
    • At least 2-5 years of practical experience in a private accounting firm and/or hands on experience in executing internal and external audits 
    • Proven working experience as Internal Auditor or Senior Auditor
