The Role
The Power Mechanical Technician plays a key role in ensuring reliable, safe, and cost efficient power supply within the terminal. This person supports the Power Unit Supervisor by carrying out maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement activities on generators, mechanical systems, and related power equipment. The role helps keep terminal operations running smoothly by ensuring 24/7 availability of essential power infrastructure.
This position involves hands-on technical work, problem-solving, teamwork, and the ability to respond quickly and safely to operational needs. The technician works closely with electricians, fellow mechanics, maintenance planners, and other internal stakeholders to keep power systems in optimal condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out mechanical maintenance, servicing, and repairs on generators and other power system components
- Support electricians during equipment breakdowns to shorten downtime and maintain operational continuity
- Monitor equipment reliability and escalate concerns to the Power Unit Supervisor when needed
- Execute daily tasks, work instructions, and decisions provided by the Supervisor
- Participate in shift, standby, and emergency response duties to ensure round the clock power availability
- Identify required spare parts, tools, and materials for both preventive and corrective maintenance
- Ensure all work complies with safety procedures, equipment manuals, and environmental standards
- Assist in housekeeping activities that maintain a clean, safe, and well organised work environment
- Perform minor repairs on tools and equipment where required
- Contribute to the analysis and improvement of maintenance standard and practices
- Report defective or faulty tools, equipment, and systems for timely intervention
- Provide support in the safe deployment, servicing, stowage, and movement of equipment
- Suggest practical improvements to enhance equipment reliability and operational efficiency
- Work collaboratively with technicians across the asset maintenance department

- Strong hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably with generator engines and power systems
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults using manuals and diagnostic tools
- Familiarity with industrial mechanical and electrical systems (hydraulic, pneumatic, variable drives, control systems)
- Technical education: Trade Test or HND in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering
- Experience with CAT diagnostic tools is an added advantage
- Strong awareness of HSE principles and safe working practices
- Ability to follow instructions, manage the workday, and collaborate effectively with others
- Willingness to learn quickly and adapt to evolving operational requirements
