    Medical Laboratory Scientist (Manager)

    Job Summary

    • The Medical Laboratory Scientist – Manager will lead the laboratory department at KCTC, ensuring accurate, reliable, and timely diagnostic services that support oncology care.
    • This role is responsible for managing laboratory staff, maintaining quality assurance systems, and overseeing compliance with national and international laboratory standards.
    • By combining technical expertise with leadership, the Lab Manager will drive excellence in diagnostics, support patient treatment outcomes, and strengthen KCTC's reputation for world-class healthcare delivery.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and manage the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in all diagnostic procedures.
    • Supervise laboratory staff, including scheduling, performance evaluation, and professional development.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards (MI.SCN, ISO, WHO, etc.).
    • Oversee quality control, proficiency testing, and quality assurance programs across all lab units (hematology, biochemistry, histopathology, microbiology, molecular diagnostics).
    • Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all laboratory processes.
    • Monitor laboratory inventory, manage procurement of reagents, consumables, and equipment, and ensure cost-effective resource utilization.
    • Collaborate with clinicians and oncologists to interpret test results and support patient treatment decisions.
    • Ensure safety protocols are followed, including biosafety, infection prevention, and waste management.
    • Develop and manage departmental budgets, track expenditures, and report on financial performance.
    • Support research, innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
    • Prepare periodic reports on laboratory performance, including turnaround times, error rates, and compliance indicators.
    • Represent the laboratory in multidisciplinary team meetings and external professional engagements.

    Requirements
    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited institution.
    • Master's Degree in Laboratory Science, Healthcare Management, or related field preferred.
    • Valid license with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
    • Certification or training in laboratory quality management, biosafety, or accreditation standards are an advantage.

    Experience Requirements

    • Minimum of 7 - 10 years post-qualification experience in a clinical or diagnostic laboratory.
    • At least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role within a healthcare facility.
    • Experience in oncology-related diagnostics or molecular pathology preferred.
    • Proven track record in laboratory quality management and accreditation processes.

    • Knowledge of laboratory information systems (LIS) and modern diagnostic technologies.

    • High ethical standards, confidentiality, and commitment to patient safety.
    • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities in fast-paced environments.
