The Compliance Officer will be responsible for ensuring that the bank operates in full compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal policies. This role entails overseeing the adherence to all applicable laws and regulations, conducting risk assessments, implementing compliance programs, and managing relationships with regulatory bodies. The Compliance Officer will also be tasked with identifying potential compliance risks and working closely with other departments to mitigate those risks, ensuring that the organization maintains a strong reputation in the Nigerian financial services industry.
In this role, you will
Monitor and interpret relevant local and international regulations, including those issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and other regulatory bodies.
Ensure compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) laws, Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, and other relevant legal obligations.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure adherence to all applicable laws and regulations.
Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential compliance vulnerabilities in the company's operations.
Design and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks and reduce the likelihood of regulatory breaches or legal violations.
Conduct regular compliance reviews and audits of operations and departments to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations
Investigate and report on any instances of non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
Provide training and awareness programs for staff on compliance matters, regulatory changes, and the importance of compliance in day-to-day operations.
Ensure staff are aware of the procedures to report suspicious activities or breaches in compliance.
Prepare regular compliance reports for senior management and relevant stakeholders, summarizing compliance risks, audit findings, and actions taken to mitigate risks.
Submit required regulatory filings and disclosures to the relevant authorities in a timely and accurate manner.
Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies and external auditors regarding compliance matters.
Respond to queries and provide requested documentation during regulatory inspections and audits.
Assist in the investigation of suspected fraudulent activities or breaches of regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with law enforcement and regulatory authorities on fraud-related investigations, where necessary.
We are looking for people with
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Law, or a related field; Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CAMS, CRCM) preferred.
4-7 years of experience in compliance, risk management, or related fields within the banking or financial services industry.
Strong knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g., AML, KYC, NDPR, etc.) and industry best practices.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
