    Health Assistant

    Job Purpose: 

    • The Health Assistant will work closely with the pharmacist and nutrition team to support the delivery of integrated primary healthcare (PHC) activities across facility, community, and OTP sites. He or she will assist in case management, referrals, and the screening and follow-up of malnutrition cases, ensuring quality service delivery for vulnerable populations.
    • He or she will support health promotion, community engagement, and coordination with community structures to strengthen service uptake. Additionally, he or she will contribute to stock management, documentation, reporting, and participation in community diagnosis and outreach activities, ensuring compliance with national guidelines and project standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    Community Health & Diagnosis

    • Support community diagnosis activities including household assessments, mapping, and identification of priority health needs. 
    • Participate in community-based surveillance and early detection of common illnesses and malnutrition cases. 
    • Assist in conducting rapid assessments and baseline/endline surveys where required. 

    Primary Healthcare Service Delivery

    • Support delivery of basic primary healthcare services at facility and community levels. 
    • Assist in outpatient consultations, triage, and referral of patients in line with national guidelines. 
    • Support immunization, maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) activities. 

    Health Promotion & Community Engagement

    • Conduct health education sessions on key topics including hygiene, nutrition, IYCF, and disease prevention. 
    • Support community mobilization through engagement with community leaders, support groups, and volunteers. 
    • Promote uptake of health and nutrition services at facility and community levels. 

    Nutrition & Integrated Services Support

    • Assist in screening for acute malnutrition using MUAC and referral for treatment.  
    • Support Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) activities at community level. 
    • Collaborate with nutrition teams to ensure integrated service delivery. 

    Data Collection & Reporting

    • Support routine data collection, documentation, and reporting of activities. 
    • Maintain accurate patient records and community registers. 
    • Assist in compiling weekly and monthly reports. 

    Coordination & Compliance

    • Work closely with health facility staff, community volunteers, and local authorities. 
    • Ensure adherence to national PHC guidelines and donor (ECHO) requirements. 
    • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and supervision sessions. 

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Minimum of Diploma or Certificate in Nursing or related health field. 
    • At least 2 years of experience in community health, including community diagnosis and primary healthcare programming. 
    • Experience working in humanitarian or development settings, preferably in Northeast Nigeria. 
    • Familiarity with PHC systems, MNCH, and community-based interventions. 

    Skills & Competencies

    • Strong understanding of primary healthcare and community-based approaches.  
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills. 
    • Ability to work in hard-to-reach and resource-limited settings
    • Basic data collection and reporting skills. 
    • Fluency in Hausa and/or Kanuri is an added advantage. 

    Other Requirements

    • Willingness to travel within project locations in Yobe State. 
    • Commitment to humanitarian principles and safeguarding standards

    Essential Skills

    • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial policies. 
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). 
    • Experience with electronic financial management systems and data collection tools. 
    • Strong organizational, analytical, and reporting skills. 
    • Ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams. 
    • Fluency in English; knowledge of relevant local languages is an advantage

     Desirable

    • Previous experience working in the BAY states (Borno, Adamawa, Yobe). 
    • Familiarity with NGO or donor financial reporting requirements (ECHO, NHF, etc.).
