    Financial Controller

    Job Description

    • Our client, a group of companies that comprises of real estate, agriculture and engineering businesses, is currently receiving applications for the role of Financial Controller.
    • This role involves overseeing all finance, accounting, investment, risk analysis & forecasting activities of the organisation.
    • The Financial Controller is to execute improved strategies of the finance department’s activities, perform cash managing roles and oversee accounts payable, receivable, disbursing of cash, payroll and bank settlement functions.
    • This role also involves handing taxation matters, providing insurance recommendations and related purchases and corporate documentation.
    • It requires ensuring compliance with financial regulations, publishing financial statements, and coordinating auditing processes to ensure accuracy of financial information.
    • The financial controller is required to provide an array of financial information needed by business executives and interprete figures to enable the organisation make decisions on expenses and sales.

    Responsibilities include:

    Strategic

    • Provide strategic management of the Finance function at an organisational level.
    • Work with the Board, CEO and Business Heads to evaluate investment and acquisition opportunities.
    • Establish and oversee the accounting policies, procedures and internal controls for the organisation, including but not limited to revenue recognition, cash management and controls, expense approval authorities, depreciation schedules, etc.
    • Oversee the reporting of group financial activity to tax authorities, Board of Directors and outside investors.
    • Facilitate organisational accountability and transparency, while providing strategic leadership.
    • Setup a budgeting process for the organisation, and work with business heads to prepare budgets, report results, analyse variance and initiate corrective actions.
    • Work with the CEO to analyse organisational operations, and to identify opportunities for improvement, cost reduction, and systems enhancement.
    • Assist the CEO and Board of Directors with strategic initiatives by studying market and economic trends and risks, and  how to take advantage of opportunities and mitigate risks.
    • Assist with presentations to shareholders, investors, and potential partners.
    • Hire and oversee external financial advisors as needed, including auditors and tax professionals.
    • Provide critical support for strategic planning, market growth strategy, and shareholder relations.
    • Provide financial projections, accounting services, and managing the financial risks of the group.
    • Develop and articulate a comprehensive financial management strategy for the organisation.
    • Act as chief advisor and strategist providing needed support to the CEO, employees and Board with respect to the identification of financial risk, and the resolution of attendant issues.
    • Provide analysis, insight and advice on financial performance to the CEO, and Business Unit Leaders for sound decision making for the organisation.
    • Develop internal reports and metrics to provide useful information for management of the business.
    • Direct the Finance department in providing and directing procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records; afford adequate accounting and project controls; and facilitate accurate and timely preparation of financial statements.
    • Direct and analyse the general economic, business and financial conditions and their impact on the organisation’s policies and financial operations.
    • Work closely with the CEO to analyse new business opportunities. Perform financial and tax due diligence, as needed.
    • Work with the CEO and the Head of Human Resources on financial management and oversight of employee benefit and compensation plans.
    • Support CEO and Board of Directors in governance and committee participation (audit, stock, finance).

    Operational

    • Balance short term concerns and pressures such as managing cash, liquidity and profitability and long-term vision and sustainable organisational success.
    • Share strategic leadership responsibilities with the CEO and other senior managers and ensure the Finance function supports the business at a strategic and operational level.
    • Drive and manage change and innovation within the organisation.
    • Engage and communicate effectively with colleagues, investors, customers, suppliers, regulators and other internal and external stakeholders.
    • Maintain existing investment arrangements and evaluate future investment needs and vehicles.
    • Identify potential strategic investment trends and opportunities.
    • Take a leadership role in decision-making on investments in the fixed income and equity arena.
    • Create and maintain a team of professionals (internal or external) to originate, analyse, finance, close and manage investments
    • Work with the Finance & Accounting Manager, Internal control Manager and Accountant to prepare financial projections and growth and investment plans.
    • Work with the Board and the organisation's business heads to identify and evaluate the capital needed and investment returns of potential new projects of the organisation, including acquisitions, investments, and expansion project.

    Requirements

    • A Bachelor's degree in any field.
    • Relevant professional certifications such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Association of Certified and Chartered Accountants (ACCA) or its equivalent is mandatory.
    • Financial management and cash flow management.
    • Financial performance planning, forecasting and reporting.
    • Risk management.
    • Numeric, data and cost analysis abilities.
    • Effective Communication.

    Experience

    • Minimum of 10 years cognate experience and a minimum of 5 years of experience in C Level Finance Executive or similar positions
    • Evidence of regular engagement with the Executive team and Financial partners in any of the Real Estate, Engineering, Manufacturing and Agriculture Industry.
