Assistant Legal & Compliance Liaison Officer at Smash Technology

The Assistant Legal & Compliance Liaison Officer will assist the Legal department in represent the company in all legal and compliance matters, act as the main point of contact with law enforcement agencies, regulatory authorities, and government bodies, and ensure the organisation operates within the framework of applicable laws, regulations, and corporate governance standards.

Responsibilities:

• Representation in Legal Matters – Assist in representing the company in legal proceedings, official hearings, mediations, and dispute resolution processes, ensuring the company’s interests are clearly communicated and protected.
• Law Enforcement and Regulatory Liaison – Act as a key liaison between the company and law enforcement agencies, regulators, and government institutions, managing official interactions and maintaining professional relationships on behalf of the organisation.
• Legal Advisory Support – Support in providing legal advice and guidance to senior management and various departments, including assisting with the drafting, reviewing, and interpretation of contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
• Regulatory Compliance Management – Assist in monitoring, interpreting, and implementing changes in laws and regulations to ensure the company remains fully compliant with statutory and industry requirements.
• Risk Identification and Mitigation – Help identify potential legal and compliance risks, support in developing mitigation strategies, and assist with staff training on relevant legal and regulatory matters.
• Internal Investigations and Reporting – Participate in investigations into possible violations of laws, regulations, or company policies, contribute to preparing detailed reports, and assist in recommending corrective measures.
• Contract Oversight – Support in negotiating, reviewing, and approving company contracts to ensure compliance with applicable laws and company policies, and help maintain an organised contract management system.
• Corporate Governance and Ethics – Assist in promoting adherence to corporate governance principles, provide compliance-related support to the board and senior officials, and help uphold the company’s ethical standards and code of conduct.
• Regulatory Reporting and Documentation – Assist in preparing and submitting required reports to regulatory bodies in a timely and accurate manner, while maintaining well-organised records of legal correspondences, meetings, and official outcomes.
• Collaboration with External Legal Counsel – Coordinate with external legal advisers on litigation, regulatory issues, and compliance audits, ensuring alignment with the company’s legal strategy.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Criminology, or related field.
• Minimum of 6 years relevant work experience in law, legal counsel liaison, and compliance management.
• Proven experience interfacing with various law enforcement agencies such as the Police, EFCC, DSS, and other regulatory bodies.
• Strong understanding of legal frameworks, compliance regulations, and investigative procedures.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
• High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive matters.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple cases or compliance issues simultaneously.
