    Assistant Community Based Protection Monitor

    Location: Guma, Makurdi

    Job Purpose.

    To monitor, identify, and report protection risks and concerns affecting vulnerable populations, ensuring timely response and referral.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Undertake routine field visits to communities, camps, and host locations to assess protection risks, vulnerabilities, and population needs. Engage directly with community members, leaders, and local structures to gather information, build trust, and ensure continuous presence and visibility of protection services.
    • Systematically identify persons with specific protection needs, including women, children, persons with disabilities, elderly individuals, and other at-risk groups. Apply established vulnerability criteria and ensure inclusive approaches that capture hidden or less visible cases.
    • Record and analyse protection incidents such as violence, abuse, exploitation, and denial of access to services using standardized tools and methodologies. Track patterns and emerging trends to inform early warning, programme planning, and advocacy efforts.
    • Ensure safe, confidential, and timely referrals of identified cases to appropriate service providers, including health, psychosocial support, legal aid, and child protection services. Follow established referral pathways and protocols, and provide basic information to affected individuals to support informed decision-making.
    • Plan and deliver community sensitization and awareness-raising activities on key protection issues, including rights, available services, prevention of gender-based violence, child protection, and safe access to assistance. Promote community participation and feedback mechanisms.
    • Prepare and submit regular reports, including field monitoring updates, incident reports, and situation analyses, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to reporting standards. Contribute to consolidated programme reports and data systems.
    • Handle all personal and sensitive data with strict confidentiality and in accordance with data protection and ethical standards. Ensure that information sharing follows the principles of informed consent, “Do No Harm,” and respect for the dignity and safety of affected individuals.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • SSCE, ND, HND or degree in Social Science, Law, International Development, or related field.
    • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in humanitarian protection programming.
    • Demonstrated experience supervising field teams.
    • Experience working with IDPs and conflict-affected communities.
