Nutrition Officer at Secours Islamique France (SIF)

Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Nutrition Project Manager (NUTPM), the incumbent will be part of the team implementing Blanket supplementary feeding (BSF) activities at community level, and referral of SAM and MAM cases to UNICEF and MSF OTP side at Ngala and Gamboru

Specific Objectives: 

• Implementation of nutrition activities at the community level
• Assists the NUT PM to work with the logistics and Admin departments to plan, procure appropriate supplies and follow up community based activities Community based assessments, community profiling and community based interventions.
• Coordinates the activities of SIF at LGA level in collaboration with the Nutrition PM
• Effective implementation of SIF Emergency Nutrition Projects within the frame work of pertinent national policy, strategy and guidelines
• Ensures observance & respect the dignity of beneficiaries, careers and members of the community at all times
• Participates in any nutrition sector-specific assessments and make technical recommendations for appropriate activities, both for initial disaster response phase and for longer-term disaster risk reduction and transition phase.
• Actively represent SIF in nutrition sector discussions and activities, serve as SIF nutrition sector resource person, and display technical and organizational leadership in sectoral activity commensurate with the role as a primary resource person for nutrition on the SIF in your working areas.
• Manages SIF nutrition response and recovery activities across a wide range of actors within SIF, donors, host governments, WFP and NGO partners to ensure consistency of programming
• Responsible for identifying priority issues on nutrition within SIF project areas; train community care coordinators, volunteers, and care givers on providing adequate nutrition to their children base on locally available food sources.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/BEHAVIOR QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Bachelor degree in Nursing, nutrition or related field; higher level degree preferred
• Professional, motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible and culturally sensitive
• Excellent communication, writing and analytical skills with proven ability to translate evaluated results into learning strategies
• Fluent in Hausa and English
• Microsoft Office Skills (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word)
• Experience in humanitarian M & E
• Experience in designing and leading internal and external evaluation
• Experience in designing and leading capacity building and training for national teams
• Familiarity with nutrition, healthcare and systems
• Commitment to SIF mission, values and policy

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Previous experience with food security and livelihoods programming
• Previous experience in CMAM and IYCF programming
• Significant experience on community management of acute malnutrition and Infant Feeding in Emergency in host communities/ IDP camp setting
• Familiarity with donors and donor procedures will be helpful.
