    Medical Doctor

    MAIN PURPOSE

    Diagnose and treat patients with the most common diseases

    Refer those who require further investigation or attention and treatment to the emergency unit or other appropriate health structure.

    ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Take a proper medical history including:

    • Reason for consultation.
    • Duration of the illness or complaint.
    • Presence or absence of the main symptoms like fever, diarrhea, cough,    dyspnea, vomiting
    • Past medical history
    • Previous treatments received.
    • Perform a correct physical examination:
    • Inspection, auscultation, percussion, palpation.
    • Systematic checking for neck stiffness, impaired consciousness, respiration rate,
    • chest indrawing, anaemia and dehydration.
    • Diagnose and treat the following pathologies according to treatment protocols:
    • Uncomplicated malaria
    • Uncomplicated acute respiratory infections
    • Watery diarrhea with or without mild or moderate dehydration
    • Dysentery in patients with good general health status
    • Intestinal worms
    • Urinary tract infection without fever
    • STDs: genital ulcers, urethritis, vaginal discharge
    • Conjunctivitis
    • Impetigo
    • Scabies, lice
    • Superficial wounds.
    • Write the most important complaint, signs, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment  on the patient’s health card.
    • If necessary, send the patient for lab exam (parachek, …)
    • Explain the treatment to the patient.
    • Give individual health education related to the patient’s disease.
    • Refer all patients with diarrhea to the ORT corner and supervise the process of rehydration.
    • Screen children under 5 for measles vaccination status and refer those who need vaccinations to the immunization site.
    • Diagnose and refer the following cases to the appropriate level of care:
    • Life threatening conditions (respiratory distress, shock, coma)
    • Cerebral malaria
    • Severe ARI
    • Severe dehydration due to diarrhea
    • Severe dysentery
    • Urinary tract infections with fever
    • PID
    • Meningitis
    • Measles
    • Deep wounds, severe traumas
    • Severe anaemia
    • Conditions requiring surgical management
    • Any other condition above the level of competence of the health worker.
    • Ensure proper data collection: Fill in the daily morbidity surveillance form. Fill in the consultation book on a daily basis
    • This position profile can be modified, depending on the evolution of the job. In addition to the tasks listed above, the Medical doctor may be required to perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor as required by the mission

    Requirements

    • Education: Medical doctor with annual practicing license.
    • Experience: Minimum of 1-year experience in practice in a similar position with other NGO is an asset.
    • Languages: English language, and local languages (Hausa, Kanuri).
    • Knowledge:    Desirable computer literacy (word, excel)
    • Skills:  Results, teamwork, team management, stress management, commitment and flexibility.
