Job Summary

The School Nurse will be responsible for promoting and maintaining the health and safety of students and staff by providing first aid, managing routine and emergency medical care, administering medications, maintaining health records, and implementing health education and preventive care initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff.
• Assess and treat minor illnesses and injuries within the school clinic.
• Administer medications in accordance with physician instructions and school policy.
• Maintain accurate and confidential medical records.
• Monitor students with chronic health conditions and develop care plans.
• Conduct health screenings and monitor immunization compliance.
• Coordinate referrals to hospitals, specialists, and other healthcare providers when necessary.
• Communicate with parents regarding health concerns and treatment provided.
• Ensure the school clinic is fully stocked and maintained.
• Implement infection prevention and control procedures.
• Provide health education on hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
• Participate in health and safety audits, emergency drills, and safeguarding activities.
• Prepare monthly health reports and incident summaries.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) qualification.
• Current license from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
• Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience.
• Experience in pediatric, school, community, or occupational health is an advantage.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong clinical assessment and emergency response skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with discretion.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic record-keeping.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc).
• Additional certifications in child health, first aid, or public health.
• Previous experience working in a school environment.
