    Water Resources / Urban Engineer

    Job Details

    Role Responsibilities

    • The successful candidate will join the Urban Water Team and will be based in Cape Town, South Africa.
    • He/she will be technically competent in urban stormwater and flood modelling, civil engineering design and preferably with experience of innovative solutions in water sensitive urban design (WSUD).
    • Short-term project visits to African countries might be required.

    Minimum Requirements

    • MSc / MEng, or BSc / BEng in Civil Engineering
    • MSc / MEng in Stormwater and Water Sensitive Urban Design field would be preferable
    • 4 - 8 years relevant experience
    • ECSA registration (advantageous)
    • Excellent proficiency in English: speaking, reading, and writing.

    Key skills that would typically be required relate to:

    • Urban flood modelling and analysis
    • Open channel flow hydraulics
    • Engineering design of drainage systems
    • Stormwater masterplanning
    • Stakeholder engagement / facilitation of workshops
    • Preparation of proposals and technical reports Additional advantageous skills include experience with other elements of the urban water cycle e.g. water conservation and demand management, non-revenue water, stormwater harvesting, and mitigation of climate change impacts and sustainability in an urban water environment.
    • The ideal candidate will also demonstrate an awareness and aptitude to implement new digital technologies and tools, particularly relating to urban water management, the monitoring of stormwater, flood early warning systems and flood risk mapping.

    Wind Resource & Energy Analyst

    Minimum Requirements

    • Qualified BSc in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
    • 5 – 10 years of experience
    • Wind resource measurement and analysis
    • WTG Layout design and site suitability
    • Wind energy production assessments
    • Ideally WindPro / WAsP
    • Supporting projects in South Africa, and into greater Africa
    • Project Development
    • Due Diligence
    • Strong analytical and statistical skills
    • Technical report writing
    • Comfortable interacting with clients and wider project teams
    • Energy and performance analysis for solar would be beneficial.

    Over Head Power Lines Engineer

    Job Summary

    What kind of talent do we pursue?

    • We are seeking an overhead power line design engineer that has experience in the design of HV OHL from concept to detail.
    • The responsibilities and experience listed below are a guideline for the role we are seeking to fulfill.
    • The successful candidate will form part of the transmission and distribution team within Zutari that covers designs related to renewable plants grid connections works and utility strengthening projects across Africa on a wide range of voltages from 11 kV up to 400 kV.

    Role responsibilities

    • Providing input into the design of transmission and distribution power lines which includes power line design from 11 kV up to 400 kV.
    • Structure designs for overhead power lines in PLScadd.
    • Preparation of technical documentation used in the tender process, and compilation of BOMs.
    • Prepare technical drawings and specifications based on the clients requirements
    • Playing an active role in the management of project finances
    • Growth and development of skills within the sub-unit
    • Assist with marketing all related products and services in conjunction with the sector leaders
    • Construction management of projects
    • Performs highly complex engineering, design, calculations, and analysis when required
    • Interpret standards and implement calculation formulas in Excel.
    • A team player that is willing to collaborate across multiple disciplines
    • A team player excelling in the commitment of the resolution of complex issues.

    Minimum Requirements

    • BSc / MSc, BTech or National Diploma in Electrical, Structural or Mechanical Engineering
    • Minimum of at least 5 or more years experience within the transmission, and distribution specific to overhead powerlines.
    • Professional registration (preferred)
    • PLScadd experience
    • PLStower and PLSpole experience
    • Basic Microstation / Autocad skills.

    Water Civil Engineer

    Job Details

    Role & Responsibilities

    • Perform highly complex engineering, designs, calculations, and analysis of bulk water and sewage infrastructure systems.
    • Responsible for the design of bulk and sewage infrastructure systems (specifically including pump stations, pipelines and reservoirs (hydraulic designs), with key contributions to 3D models, technical drawings and details.
    • Produce other key deliverables on projects, such as technical reports, specifications, and procurement documentation.
    • Managing junior project team staff to deliver high-quality work within constrained timeframes.
    • Be a team player that is willing to collaborate across multiple disciplines and international geographies.

    Minimum Requirements

    • BSc (Eng), BEng, MSc (Eng) / MEng in Civil Engineering
    • Minimum of 5 or more years experience as a Civil Engineer within the bulk infrastructure
    • Professional registration with ECSA will be an added advantage. Civil3D, Revit, and any other specialist software such as surge analysis, CFD and/or reticulation modelling.

    Primary Plant Design Engineer

    Minimum Requirements

    • B.Eng or B.Sc or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering
    • 3 years of relevant substation primary plant design experience in voltage levels up to 132kV or above
    • CDEGS, CYMCAP, MATHCAD, and PLS-CADD experience will be advantageous.
    • Basic Microstation/Autocad skills
    • Wide range of general knowledge of electrical engineering.

    Power System Studies Engineer

    Role & Responsibilities

    • Support, and manage dynamic system modeling information and studies
    • Perform and lead a range of studies including: Grid Code compliance, Grid impact Study, Transmission planning studies, insulation coordination, switching studies, power quality studies, EMTP Studies, transient and dynamic performance studies, small signal analysis and forensic studies
    • Developing and recommending best practices for the conduct of system impact analysis
    • (including electromagnetic transient analysis) of new renewable technologies, such as inverter-based generation, including wind, solar, and storage technologies.
    • Present recommendations regarding system modeling issues and results to ISOs and Utilities.
    • Develop and recommend best practices for power systems studies.
    • Compile and Evaluate technical reports, engineering calculations and provide independent reviews for clients.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A Degree in Electrical Engineering is required with a preference for specialization in power systems studies.
    • Professional Registration with ECSA would be an advantage
    • Experience interacting with stakeholders
    • Minimum of 3 to 8 years of relevant experience
    • Highly proficient user of EMT simulation software and commonly used network simulation software (Eg. PSSE, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, EMTDC/PSCAD).
    • Working knowledge of the following Software (PSLF, ASPEN, DSATools, Powerworld, and
    • EMTP RV) would be an advantage
    • Working knowledge of PLEXOS will be an advantage
    • Working Experience in performing a range of studies including: Grid Code compliance, Grid impact Study, Transmission planning studies, insulation coordination, switching studies, power quality studies, EMTP Studies, transient and dynamic performance studies, small signal analysis and forensic studies
