    Senior Protection Officer

    General context of the Job / Project

    • The role holder is responsible for the technical supervision and coordination of all protection-related activities in the assigned areas.
    • S/he provides appropriate and timely oversight on the supervision of case management services; supporting, coaching and overseeing the work of protection officers, ensuring that the training needs and capacity building for CFM Assistants and protection officers are addressed in a timely fashion, harmonised across LGAs and that protection services and activities are delivered in line with SHO quality standard.

    Task and Responsibilities

    • Assist Carries out all tasks respecting key protection principles, including but not limited to; do no harm; non-discrimination; confidentiality, accountability, and; need-to-know principles.
    • Contribute to the design and execution of project assessments, regular service mapping, updates to the service directory, the development of referral systems per area, and project data collection (surveys, pre and post-tests, etc…). Identifying Protection trends and reporting gaps in the availability, access and quality of protection services in the assigned area;
    • Flags protection and security issues and contribute to the identification of appropriate responses via regular data review and the submission of protection reports;
    • Supports the planning, implementation and reporting on all protection activities via project workplans, schedules, team management and the availability of materials; supporting a positive team dynamic and a healthy work environment.
    • Harmonizes guidance and support for the planning and implementation of awareness raising activities, focus group discussions, and training workshops as instructed by the supervisory/managerial team;
    • Participate in external meetings, representing SHO as needed, with an emphasis on trainings on protection monitoring, general protection trends, and challenges;
    • Supports the development, updating and local adaptation of protection tools and training material and deliver step-down trainings on these as needed for the field;
    • Supports donor reporting and project development and protection strategies at the macro level as required
    • Support technically in manages individual protection cases, including maintaining strict protocols for confidentiality and consent.
    • Technically supports the collection of information/data about vulnerability, protection needs and concerns of the targeted population.
    • Supports the planning, implementation and reporting on all protection activities via project workplans, schedules, team management and the availability of materials; supporting a positive team dynamic and a healthy work environment.
    • Ensures an equal division of the overall workload, timely follow-up on targets and flag issues to the Project Coordinator
    • Ensure that program implementation mainstreams protection in coordination with other sectors in line with best practices.
    • Ensure that beneficiaries are effectively targeted according to vulnerability criteria.
    • Lead where necessary community meetings to identify gender-related priorities and protection concerns.
    • Establish and maintain effective program reporting, and monitoring and evaluation systems (to track, analyze and report on results) for both internal and external use
    • Integrate community approaches, protection mainstreaming, gender sensitivity and capacity building into all activities as appropriate.
    • Ensure program filing system is in place, adheres to internal and donor regulation and filing is regularly maintained.
    • Provide weekly field reports, capturing activities progress, lessons learned, success stories on the project as well as the general situation and community updates and needs.
    • Report on any problems encountered in the field such as project participant complaints, local authority interference, and security threats to SHO staff and activities.
    • Ensure that beneficiaries are effectively targeted according to established vulnerability criteria.
    • Develop the capacity of the team, deepen understanding of their roles and assist with career development.
    • Organize trainings as per learning needs assessment and co-facilitate trainings.
    • Assist team members with information, tools, and resources to improve performance & reach objectives.
    • Promote accountability, communicate expectations, and provide constructive feedback informally and formally via regular one on ones and performance reviews.
    • Create and sustain a work environment of mutual respect where team members strive to achieve excellence
    • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Project Coordinator;

    Essential knowledge and skills

    • University Degree in a relevant discipline (Law, Political Science, Social Science, Psychology or any other relevant education profile), or comparable addition to experience.
    • Prior expertise in offering counseling services that are child- and gender-sensitive as part of a humanitarian response.
    • Understanding local dialects English, Kanuri, Shuwa and Hausa.

    Preferred experience:

    • At least 5 years relevant work experience.
    • Experience in working in Borno State
    • Evidence of prior work with communities in humanitarian or development contexts for a minimum of Five years.
    • Previous experience with GFD, BSFP and Cash Programming for Protection.
    • The ability and desire to frequently go to the operating fields of SHO.
    • Very good interpersonal skills, particularly in networking, working with communities, local civil society and local authorities.
    • Previous experience in using and adapting community-led approaches.
    • Effective grasp and application of the SHO standards and ethics for protection work, conflict sensitivity principles, and do no harm.
    • Good understanding of protection concerns, including GBV issues in displacement, human rights, and international humanitarian law.
    • Proven analytical skills.
    • The ability to work under pressure
    • Excellent computer knowledge and skills of using Microsoft word, power point and excel.

    Targeting and Verification Officer

    General context of the Job / Project

    • The candidates selected will work as a core team to carry out beneficiary profiling exercise, which aims to update and refine the list of households and beneficiaries in IDP camps and host community locations through a verification process to account for births and deaths of beneficiary household members, to remove non-valid SCOPE card records, and to account for people who may have left the camps or host communities.
    • The Targeting Officer will technically be supervised and supported by the Project coordinator.

    Task and Responsibilities

    • Participated in community-based preliminary registration, possibly going "door to door" in households, regarding urban areas.
    • Form a committee for community registration or targeting and make sure its members are decent representatives of the neighborhood
    • Classify households according to their level of vulnerability and ensure that food assistance is targeted to households based on their vulnerability
    • Create a community registration/targeting committee to set primary, secondary, and excluding criteria depending on the village context.
    • Ensure all the processes are dully recorded and publicly announced to all households within the community
    • Training of community targeting committee on how to use targeting criteria.
    • Provide the registration format/forms to establish the draft registration master list
    • Conducts work with the highest level of integrity
    • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Project Coordinator.

    Essential knowledge and skills

    • University Degree in Food Security or Agriculture, Social Science, Economics, Social Works related discipline and at least two years of professional experience in food and cash assistance interventions.
    • Prior expertise in targeting and registration activities.
    • Understanding local dialects English, Kanuri, Shuwa and Hausa.
