    Senior Associate - Capital Market / Research

    Position Description 

    • Responsible for overall strategy of all Capital Market transaction, including negotiations, client interaction, and management of documentation;
    • Provide financial advisory services to companies that are desirous of raising capital from the investing members of the public through various options available in the Capital Market and those that wish to re-structure to ensure profitability and attainment of corporate goals;
    • Provide expertise and advice on transactions e.g. mergers and acquisitions, buy-outs, and buy-ins etc.
    • Structuring new deals and assessing profitability and risks;
    • Coordinate research for the Market Supervision, and Market Development
    • Carrying out desk research on the successful regulatory, licensing, surveillance / supervision and market development practices of other emerging market regulators.
    • Oversee data collection, and analysis for research studies, surveys and strategic plan reviews
    • Prepare and submit reports and presentations for research studies, surveys and investor/issuer/policy makers’ education and outreach campaigns
    • Write research papers / articles on various aspects of the capital markets for journals, newspapers and other print media.
    • Make presentations to various forums e.g. investors, market intermediaries, policy makers / line ministry, financial sector regulators, trade/professional associations, professional bodies and issuers when called upon
    • Prepare and manage departmental budgets.

    Core Duties

    • Oversee the preparation of financial models and report them; developing and present appropriate financial solutions;
    • Carry out a critical and analytical evaluation of a company’s financial/operational positions and proffer a realistic and fair-view position before undertaking the capital raising exercise;
    • Carry out valuation, pricing, and regulatory aspects of any Capital Market transaction as required by regulatory bodies;
    • Prepare prospectus, right circular, information memorandum, scheme document and other documents amongst others that might be required for the capital raising exercise;
    • Meet with representatives/officers of other professional party(ies) to any transaction to ensure proper coordination;
    • Market Capital Market transactions to prospective clients through proposal, expression of interest or any other letters as may be required to prospective clients;
    • Monitor trends in the Nigerian financial market and remaining abreast of financial legislations (including rules of SEC, NSE, CBN, DMO, NAICOM, PENCOM etc.) and product changes;
    • Handle client complaints and address them;
    • Provide leadership and analytical support for the company’s businesses;
    • Offer support for research analyses and activities to other departments and the subsidiaries of the company;
    • Ensure proper conduct and publication of equity research report, daily financial market update, daily business headlines, macro-economic analysis, commentary on CBN MPC communique, and any other reports as any be required from time to time;
    • Coordinate the preparation of the presentation slides for the company’s weekly investment meeting and participation of team members;
    • Ensure proper valuation, reporting and dissemination of KPMG Partners’ Welfare Scheme;
    • Monitor and mark-to-market the company’s proprietary trading account;
    • Deal on behalf of the company in its primary and supplemental market marking functions;
    • Coordinate team members in the department;
    • All other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the Managing Director.

    Knowledge:
    The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

    • Budgeting and forecasting,
    • Internal and external reporting, which includes the following:- Process improvement, industry knowledge, and applications of at least one of the following focus areas:
    • Shared service and outsourcing,
    • Finance transformation, performance management, financial systems optimization, and talent management
    • Business intelligence and performance management software tools.
    • Knowledge of investment banking and capital market instruments such as OTC, derivatives, bonds, futures and money market
    • Knowledge of front, middle or back office processes in the major capital market participants including investment banking, market infrastructure, custodians, hedge funds etc.

    Core Skills:

    • Demonstrate proven extensive abilities and success with developing strategy; as well as leveraging PC applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to write, communicate, facilitate, and present cogently; to and/or for all levels of industry audiences, clients and internal staff and management, including development and delivery of business proposals, conferences and whitepapers.
    • Demonstrate proven intimate levels of knowledge and success with identifying, obtaining and processing critical data (e.g. benchmarks) to challenge the status quo through innovative thought leadership in the application of standard industry practice solutions for high performing finance functions, including the following:
      • Internal and external reporting
      • People and organization structures
      • Performance management, budgeting and forecasting capabilities
      • Cash flow optimization and the use of capital; and,
      • Maintenance and building of cost-effective controls
    • Demonstrate proven extensive ability and success to contribute to the development of a business vision and manage implementation efforts with complex project management capabilities.
    • Demonstrate proven extensive ability and/or success with identifying and addressing client needs: building, maintaining, and utilizing networks of client relationships; communicating value propositions; managing resource requirements, project workflow, budgets, billing and collections; and preparing and/or coordinating complex written and verbal materials.
    • Demonstrate proven extensive ability as a team leader: supervising teams to create an atmosphere of trust; seeking diverse views to encourage improvement and innovation; and coaching staff including providing timely meaningful written and verbal feedback.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Accounting or Business Administration
    • Possession of a postgraduate academic or professional qualification in a relevant discipline will be an added advantage
    • Minimum of 6 years of experience preferably in research, quantitative analysis, and/or financial reporting
    • Previous experience within the Capital Markets Industry will be an added advantage
    • Broad knowledge and interest in financial services in general, and in Capital Markets in particular
    • Broad knowledge and understanding of the operations of the financial sector is required.

    • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience; with a minimum of 5 years of Senior Level Managerial experience.
    • Sound knowledge of Corporate Stock Broking, Brokerage Services/ Stockbroking, Estate Account and Shares Transmission, Equities Investments.
    • Knowledge of FinTech and the ability to drive the development of products around FinTechs.

    • Minimum of 5+ years hands-on experience with a good sales track record in Institutional sales with an emphasis on Stockbroking, Capital Market, and other Financial Instruments (Treasury bills, Bonds, etc.)
