JOB PURPOSE

• The post holder will teach Psychology for iGCSE and A Levels and ideally have a background in teaching another Humanities subject. They will make a full contribution to the pastoral and co-curricular life of the School.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Teacher Professional Duties

• The following duties shall be deemed to be included in the professional duties which teaching staff may be required to perform:

Teaching

• Plan, prepare and teach well-structured lessons.
• Teach, according to their educational need, the students assigned; setting and marking work, including examinations.
• Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all students, knowing when to differentiate appropriately.
• Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of students.
• Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge students.
• Promote the general progress and well-being of individual students and of any class or group of students assigned.
• Manage student behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.
• Demonstrate good understanding of a range of specific learning difficulties.
• Communicate and consult effectively with the parents of students.
• Communicate and co-operate with persons or bodies outside the School.
• Participate in meetings arranged for any of the purposes described above.
• Collaborate and co-operate with other teachers on the ongoing preparation and development of best teaching practice and an exciting and engaging curriculum.

Assessment and reports

• Assist in the screening of new students.
• Make accurate and productive use of assessment, providing or contributing oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students and groups of students.
• Use relevant data to monitor, progress, set targets and plan subsequent lessons.
• Give students regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking.

Appraisal and professional development

• Participate in arrangements made for teacher appraisal and professional development.
• Review methods of teaching and programmes of work.
• Develop and maintain a deliberate approach to teaching pedagogy.
• Undertake such training as may be reasonably required by the School to adapt to the changing requirements of the School or as may be necessary to fulfil the School’s statutory or regulatory obligations.
• To undertake mandated job-related training as required and instructed by the School.

Additional professional responsibilities

• Fulfil wider professional responsibilities by making a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the School.
• Contribute to the provision of activities to support the co-curricular programme of the School.
• Act as a personal tutor to students assigned in a Day/Boarding House.
• Accompany students on trips away from the School.
• Attend assemblies and chapel services as necessary, register students and supervise students outside the classroom, whether these duties are to be performed before, during or after School sessions.
• Child protection, discipline, health and safety
• Safeguard and promote the welfare of all the children and young people at Rugby School Nigeria.
• Maintain good order and discipline among the students and safeguard their health and safety both when they are on the School premises and when they are engaged in authorised School activities elsewhere.
• Ensure all staff act in accordance with Rugby School’s policies and procedures.

Public examinations

• Participate in arrangements for preparing students for examinations and supervise them during public and internal examinations and assessments.

JOB PURPOSE

• The Swimming coach and lifeguard is responsible for delivering high-quality swimming lessons and coaching to students while ensuring the safety and supervision of all pool users. The role supports the Physical Education department in promoting aquatic skills, water safety, and overall student wellbeing. The position also assists with the organisation of school aquatic activities and general PE programmes to create a safe, engaging, and positive sporting environment for students and staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Plan and deliver swimming lessons and coaching sessions for students of varying ages and abilities
• Promote water safety, confidence, and correct swimming techniques
• Prepare lesson plans that support the school’s Physical Education curriculum
• Assess and monitor student progress in swimming skills and water confidence
• Assist with the development of school swim teams, competitions, and aquatic events where required
• Provide active lifeguard supervision during all swimming activities
• Ensure all pool users follow safety rules and safe swimming practices
• Respond promptly and effectively to any poolside incidents or emergencies
• Maintain a safe and well organised poolside environment during lessons and activities
• Set up and prepare pool facilities and equipment for lessons and aquatic activities
• Support the wider Physical Education department with PE lessons, sports activities, and school events where required
• Communicate effectively with staff and students to encourage participation and positive behaviour
• Report any safety concerns, incidents, or facility issues to the appropriate staff members

• Lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR certification
• Ensure all swimming activities follow school safety procedures and safeguarding policies
• Monitor the pool environment to ensure safe use by all participants
• Follow all workplace health and safety procedures
• Respond promptly and appropriately to aquatic emergencies
• Ensure compliance with school safety policies and local regulations
