    Fiber Optic Technician

    Responsibilities

    • Inspecting, testing, and repairing equipment used in telecommunications networks.
    • Installing new fiber optic networks and repairing existing ones as needed.
    • Installing and maintaining equipment used in telecommunications networks such as routers, switches, and repeaters
    • Installing new infrastructure or upgrading existing infrastructure to accommodate technological advances in the telecommunications industry.
    • Installing cable television equipment such as amplifiers, filters, splitters, and converters, as well as performing signal strength tests to ensure quality reception.
    • Installing fiber optic equipment such as splicing machines, fiber optic test equipment, and fiber optic cable termination devices.
    • Determining the location of underground utilities such as gas, water, and electricity lines before beginning construction work.
    • Installing fiber optic cables in conduits or aerial locations such as on telephone poles or between buildings.
    • Performing troubleshooting on fiber optic networks to identify problems and provide solutions.

    Academic Qualifications / Experience

    • Minimum of HND / University Degree in Engineering, or closely related field.
    • 5 - 7 years of experience in the Telecommunication industry essential.

    Field Engineer

    Responsibilities

    • Conducting tests to determine the physical properties of materials, such as tensile strength and elongation.
    • Communicating with clients or contractors about project status, working with engineers to develop designs for new projects, and providing documentation for completed projects.
    • Conducting research on new materials that could be used in the manufacturing process.
    • Designing, constructing, and maintaining equipment used to produce fiber products.
    • Evaluating and selecting new equipment that could improve efficiency or safety in the manufacturing process
    • Conducting feasibility studies for new projects and investigating potential problems in existing processes or equipment.
    • Evaluating the health risks associated with exposure to certain materials or chemicals.
    • Training workers in proper procedures for using equipment and machinery to reduce risk of injury or damage to equipment or materials.
    • Inspecting equipment to ensure that it is operating properly and efficiently.

    Academic Qualifications / Experience

    • Minimum of HND / University Degree in Engineering, or closely related field.
    • 6 - 8 years of experience in leading a quality team in the Telecommunication industry essential.

    GIS Officer

    Responsibilities

    • Work on projects, scoping out the nature and purpose of the information required by clients.
    • Collect, store, analyse and present geographical and spatial information.
    • Use a range of GPS tools in the field to capture the location of 'assets' such as bridges, street lights, road barriers and flood defences
    • Undertake desk-based data capture (digitising) to convert paper maps to GIS datasets to, for example, record the location of telecoms cables or water pipelines from original maps.
    • Create and maintain the structures necessary for GIS data storage.
    • Develop tools for loading/transferring GIS data between different systems.
    • Manipulate, analyse and present geographical information by creating programs to convert GIS information from one format to another.
    • Develop internet apps to present GIS data and tools on corporate websites.
    • Use tools to join together different GIS datasets and create new information or investigate patterns, e.g. estimating the number of people potentially affected by flooding, using population growth figures and planning information to estimate increasing/decreasing demand for school capacity or calculating the number of potential customers for a new supermarket and predicting buying patterns based on socio-economic factors.

    Academic Qualifications / Requirements

    • Minimum of HND / University Degree in Geography, Mathematics, Computer Science, or closely related field.
    • 6 - 10 years of experience in leading a GIS team in the Telecommunication industry is essential.
    • Ability to pay particular attention to details to work with databases and also analyze information.
    • High analytical thinking to effectively analyze information and databases.
    • Profound GIS knowledge.

    Project Manager - Fiber Optic

    Responsibilities

    • Attend pre-bid meetings with the Estimator and gather requirements as needed.
    • Refine the scope of the project in collaboration with the estimator/senior management/customer.
    • Create a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the project.
    • Determine the resources (labor, materials, equipment, etc.) and criteria (locates, permits, safety needs, etc.) required to complete the project.
    • Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the activities.
    • Review the project schedule with all affected stakeholders and senior management as necessary; revise the schedule as required.
    • Determine the objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completion including hours, costs, revenues, time to invoice, time to close.
    • Maintain effective dialog with division Construction Managers regarding the planning and scheduling of resources for division efforts.
    • Prepare the final job folder with all necessary forms, complete work order and all supporting prints and job documentation.
    • Meet with Construction Manager to officially review all aspects of the job and formally transition the job to the scheduling/implementation phase of the project.
    • In consultation with the appropriate manager, select staff with appropriate skills for the project activities.
    • Manage project staff according to the established policies and practices of the organization.
    • Ensure that all project personnel receive an appropriate orientation to the project.
    • Contract qualified staff to work on the project as needed.
    • Demonstrates a team focus, providing leadership, support and adherence to sound business practices.
    • Execute the project according to the project plan.
    • Use forms and records to document project progress.
    • Set up files to ensure that all project information is appropriately documented and secured.
    • Monitor the progress of the project and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project.
    • Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the organization and the customer on the progress of the project.
    • Review the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards.
    • Ensure all project closing tasks are completed: splicing, site clean-up, as-built drawings.
    • Provides effective management and utilization of labor, materials and equipment resources, controlling costs within budget guidelines and producing optimal margins.
    • Identify areas of risk and opportunity, ensuring projects meet or exceed budgeted financial objectives with focus on revenue, expense control and margin optimization.
    • Monitor and approve all budgeted project expenditures.
    • Monitor cash flow projections and report actual cash flow and variance to senior management on a regular basis (monthly/bimonthly).
    • Manage all project funds according to established accounting policies and procedures.
    • Proactively identify problematic design/construction elements and formulate solutions.
    • Initiate change orders with the customer for all changes to the scope of work.
    • Ensure that all financial records for the project are up to date.
    • Prepare documentation for final invoice, financial reports and supporting documentation.
    • Ensure that the project deliverable’s are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality.
    • Evaluate the outcomes of the project as established during the planning phase.
    • Lead debrief on completed project to track factors affecting successful project implementation and profitability.
    • Identify and develop strategic accounts.
    • Communicate effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions and strategies.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction and lasting client relationships.
    • Complete special projects or other duties as assigned.

    Academic Qualifications / Requirements

    • Minimum of HND / University Degree in Engineering or closely related field.
    • 8 - 12 years of experience in leading a fiber team team in the Telecommunication industry is essential.
    • Knowledge of project management is essential.
