Job Summary:
To identify gaps in terms of hygiene, sanitation, and water consumption, the hygiene assistants will;
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of training modules for the promotion of hygiene practices at homes in camps and communities, as well as in-home visits and community visits (schools, health institutions, etc.)
- Assist communities and health facilities in implementing safe hygiene practices by planning emergency hygiene promotion awareness-raising programs and encouraging the installation of latrines, hand washing stations, and clean environments

The implementation of the Gender Responsive Education Sector Plan (GRESP) in Borno State involves comprehensive data collection to assess educational outcomes, particularly for girls. This includes analyzing enrollment, retention, and completion rates across various Local Government Areas (LGAs), as well as evaluating the effectiveness of gender-sensitive planning and budgeting initiatives. The data collected will inform strategies to enhance accountability, transparency, and overall educational reforms in the region.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Collection
- Conduct structured or semi-structured interviews using paper-based or digital questionnaires (e.g., KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO).
- Visit households, institutions, or public places as per the sampling frame provided.
- Accurately record responses and observations as per the project’s data collection tools.
- Ensure informed consent is obtained from all respondents before starting any survey.
- Translate and interpret questions into local languages when necessary to ensure clarity for respondents.
Community Engagement
- Liaise with community leaders and local stakeholders to gain access and build trust with the community.
- Address respondents’ concerns about data confidentiality and ensure ethical standards are maintained.
- Provide clear explanations to participants about the purpose of the survey and the organization conducting it.
Data Quality Assurance
- Review completed forms for completeness and consistency before submission.
- Flag and report any challenges or discrepancies encountered during data collection to the supervisor.
- Participate in spot-checks or back-checks as required by the quality assurance team.
Compliance
- Follow organizational and donor guidelines for data privacy, integrity, and ethics.
- Abide by security protocols, especially in conflict-affected or hard-to-reach areas.
- Respect cultural norms and practices while conducting interviews.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of SSCE or OND (Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, statistics, public health, development studies, or related fields is preferred).
- Previous experience in data collection or survey implementation in humanitarian or development contexts.
- Familiarity with digital data collection tools such as KoboToolbox, ODK, or SurveyCTO.
- Knowledge of local languages and customs of the target area.
- Ability to navigate remote or rural environments safely and efficiently.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Job Summary.
The Hygiene Promotion Officer will be directly overseen by the WASH Coordinator Maiduguri and will be in charge of organizing, participating in, and carrying out all hygiene promotion activities in the communities of implementation. The Hygiene Promotion Officer will serve as a liaison officer between the organisation and the community stakeholders in gathering information, creating reports, and cultivating connections and coordination in the WASH sector with partners.
The officer is responsible for promoting hygiene practices and ensuring that all project activities are carried out and that all CATAI regulations and guidelines are followed. The Hygiene Promotion Officer supervises the Hygiene Promoters (Assistants) and volunteers in conducting daily hygiene awareness campaigns, house-to-house and group sessions, community mobilization, and meetings with volunteers and leaders in the community, which are all closely coordinated.
The Hygiene Promotion Officer will be in charge of organizing, participating in, and carrying out all hygiene promotion activities under the close supervision of the WASH Coordinator Maiduguri.
Job Description:
- Develop, and oversee weekly campaigns to promote good hygiene based on a monthly schedule.
- Locate, pick, and support volunteers for hygiene promotion through various methods of training
- Oversee the daily hygiene promotion activities carried out by volunteers.
- Support the planning, organizing, and execution of campaigns, focus groups, international hygiene events, and house-to-house visits to keep an eye on cleanliness practices.
- Create informational, educational, and communicational resources for volunteers who promote good hygiene.
- Create a volunteer-run child hygiene club following Children Hygiene and Sanitation Training (CHAST) and lead CHAST Sessions.
- Support the application of community-led total sanitation (CLTS) and other participatory hygiene and sanitation techniques.
- Participate in the beneficiary screening process and help provide dignity and hygiene kits to recipients.
- Keep track of all your efforts to promote hygiene, and set up an efficient filing system.
- Make sure that gender mainstreaming is done while implementing any campaigns to promote hygiene.
- Create a database to record data about hygiene promotion and enter it once a week.
- Gather information on hygiene promotion, create reports on week field activities, and send them to the WASH Coordinator.
Monitoring Ability:
- Take part in the Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) Survey, which has been modified to promote hygiene.
- Implement the techniques outlined for the water management and hygiene promotion sensitization sessions, and ensure adherence by your team.
- Track the development of the campaigns to promote cleanliness and document the results of the sensitization workshops.
- Make suggestions for potential modifications and enhancements to the strategy.
- Maintain a log of all your hygiene-related activities and put in place a productive filling procedure.
- Ensure gender mainstreaming is included
- Collaborate and share information with the internal WaSH officers.
- Share information with relevant parties, particularly WaSH partners, volunteers, and local authorities.

- Continue to have a good rapport with each stakeholder.
- Help the monitoring and evaluation team with beneficiary registration, baseline, and end-line survey administration, and postdistribution monitoring.

Qualification:
- A minimum of two years of experience working in public health or hygiene promotion with an NNGO/INGO/UN organization
- Bachelor of Science degree or Higher National Diploma in Public Health, Biological Science or other relevant fields
- Proficiency in the English language, both oral and written
- Prior experience managing in unstable and complicated environments.
- Flexibility and the capacity to function well under stress.
- Demonstrated honesty, good moral character, and familiarity with the local environment ideally

Responsibilites:
- Support on and keep up-to-date service map to which children and families can be referred in the facility and catchment area
- identify, assess, document, refer (to relevant services) and follow-up at-risk children and families
- Manage cases in acceptable timeframe according to CATAI\'s case Management SOPs.
- Undertake home visits to families of childrenreceiving case management services
- Respect confidentiality and follow ethical guidelines/ standards
- Ensure that case management information is managed according to CATAI approved procedures e.g. case management forms, registers and computer databases are used in an appropriate and correct manner and protected accordingly
- Facilitate, collect and report information regarding the overall situation of child protection risks in CATAI’s operational areas
- Support the preparation of all procurement and administrative documents required for case management implementation.
- Prepare and share with line manager monitoring reports/updates
- Participate in Case conferences for the management of complex cases
- Maintain highest standards of professional conduct and ensure actions do not put children at risks
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimmum of 1 years sectoral (child protection) experience in a similar position
- Minimum Diploma in social sciences, social work or community development
- Experience working and communicating with Children
- Excellent technical understanding of child protection and community based approaches
- Excellent technical understanding of child protection (especially case management) and community based approaches
- Excellent understanding of the case management including FTR proces
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
