    People and Culture Associate

    Role Summary

    The People & Culture Associate will play a critical role in driving a high-performance culture across Black Pelican Group by leading the optimization and continuous improvement of Performance Management and Compensation & Benefits frameworks.

    This role is responsible for ensuring performance systems are data-driven, fair, measurable, and aligned with business strategy, while also managing competitive compensation structures that attract, motivate, and retain top talent. The ideal candidate is analytical, structured, people-oriented, and deeply passionate about building systems that drive accountability, engagement, and reward excellence.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and coordinate the end-to-end performance management cycle across Black Pelican Group, including corporate goal cascading, KPI development, mid-year reviews, annual appraisals, and final rating validation, ensuring full alignment between business strategy, departmental objectives, and individual deliverables.
    • Partner with Business Unit Heads and Line Managers to design measurable and outcome-driven KPIs, translating strategic priorities into SMART performance indicators.
    • Drive performance calibration and rating standardization processes, facilitating structured review sessions with leadership to ensure fairness, consistency, elimination of bias, and internal equity in performance evaluations across departments and entities.
    • Analyze and interpret performance data trends, preparing structured reports and dashboards that provide insights into productivity levels, rating distributions, underperformance risks, and high-potential talent identification to support strategic workforce decisions.
    • Oversee the development and monitoring of Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) by working closely with line managers to define clear performance expectations, structured timelines, coaching interventions, and documentation that ensures compliance with company policy and labor regulations.
    • Support the design, review, and implementation of the Group’s compensation structure, including salary bands, grading frameworks, and pay positioning strategies that ensure competitiveness in the relevant market while maintaining internal equity and cost control.
    • Manage and coordinate the salary review process, ensuring performance ratings, business results, budget parameters, and internal equity considerations are objectively integrated into pay adjustment recommendations.
    • Administer and optimize employee benefits programs, including health insurance, pension schemes, statutory remittances, leave management, and other welfare initiatives, ensuring accuracy, compliance, vendor coordination, and clear employee communication.
    • Collaborate with Finance to validate payroll inputs and compensation changes, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing, proper documentation of adjustments, and full compliance with Nigerian labor laws and statutory obligations.
    • Develop and maintain HR analytics dashboards and workforce cost reports, providing leadership with data-driven insights on compensation ratios and cost-to-headcount metrics.
    • Champion a performance-driven and merit-based culture, ensuring transparency in goal setting, clarity in reward mechanisms, and strong linkage between measurable results, career progression, and compensation outcomes across the Group.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, or a related field, with CIPM or PHRI certification preferred.
    • Minimum of 3–5 years progressive HR experience, including direct responsibility for Performance Management and Compensation & Benefits.
    • Proven experience managing full performance cycles, including KPI development, reviews, calibration, and performance improvement plans.
    • Strong knowledge of salary structuring, benchmarking, incentive frameworks, payroll validation, and Nigerian statutory compliance requirements.
    • Proficiency in Excel, HR analytics, dashboard reporting, and HRIS systems, with the ability to interpret workforce data effectively.
    • Strong stakeholder management skills, high integrity, and the ability to align people strategies with business objectives.
