Job Summary
The MRO Manager (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) is responsible for leading and managing all maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of production equipment and facilities in an automobile manufacturing environment. The role focuses on preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance, lifecycle management of assets, and continuous improvement to minimize downtime, improve OEE, and ensure safe and compliant operations.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Strategy & Asset Management
- Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance strategies, including preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance.
- Manage lifecycle planning of manufacturing equipment, tooling, and facilities.
- Define maintenance standards, checklists, and overhaul cycles for critical equipment.
- Ensure high equipment availability and reliability across production lines.
Repair & Overhaul Operations
- Plan and execute major overhauls, refurbishments, and rebuilds of production machinery and utilities.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for chronic failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Manage shutdown maintenance, annual overhauls, and plant turnarounds.
- Ensure rapid response and effective resolution of breakdowns to minimize production loss.
Team Leadership & Workforce Management
- Lead, train, and develop maintenance engineers, technicians, and contractors.
- Allocate manpower and resources efficiently across shifts and maintenance activities.
- Drive a culture of safety, reliability, and continuous improvement within the maintenance team.
Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), MTBF, and MTTR through systematic reliability initiatives.
- Implement TPM, RCM, and lean maintenance practices.
- Support automation, digital maintenance, and Industry 4.0 initiatives (predictive analytics, sensors, CMMS).
Planning, Budgeting & Cost Control
- Prepare and manage maintenance and overhaul budgets, including spares, services, and capital refurbishments.
- Optimize maintenance costs while ensuring asset reliability and compliance.
- Support capex planning for equipment upgrades and replacements.
Vendor & Contractor Management
- Manage OEMs, service providers, and overhaul contractors.
- Ensure quality, safety, and timeline adherence for outsourced maintenance activities.
- Evaluate vendor performance and drive continuous improvement.
Systems, Compliance & Safety
- Ensure effective use of CMMS/EAM systems (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo) for work orders, history, and analytics.
- Ensure compliance with safety, statutory, environmental, and quality standards.
- Drive zero-accident maintenance practices and permit-to-work systems.
Reporting & Performance Monitoring
- Track and report maintenance KPIs such as equipment availability, downtime, MTBF, MTTR, and maintenance cost per unit.
- Provide regular performance reviews and improvement plans to senior management.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering.
- Postgraduate degree or certifications in Maintenance, Reliability Engineering, or TPM preferred.
Experience
- 8–12 years of experience in maintenance, repair, and overhaul within automobile or heavy manufacturing industries.
- Proven experience managing large production assets, utilities, and plant overhauls.
