Job Roles and Responsibilities

Case Identification and Legal Support

• Assist in identifying beneficiaries with legal needs related to HLP rights or civil documentation.
• Provide basic legal counseling and support to individuals and families in the community.
• Support the preparation and documentation of legal cases for referrals or direct action.

Awareness and Community Engagement

• Conduct community outreach and legal awareness sessions on rights, legal procedures, and access to civil documentation.
• Disseminate legal information in user-friendly formats, including local languages.
• Encourage inclusive participation among women, youth, elderly, and persons with disabilities.

Stakeholder Liaison

• Accompany beneficiaries to engage with local authorities, courts, or civil registry offices.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with community leaders, government institutions, and service providers.

Monitoring, Documentation, and Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of cases, referrals, outreach activities, and community feedback.
• Support the Legal Technical Officer in drafting regular reports and documenting success stories.
• Monitor progress on active cases and assist with follow-ups.

Team Support and Learning

• Work collaboratively with ICLA/Protection staff and volunteers to ensure coordinated service delivery.
• Participate in trainings and team meetings to strengthen legal awareness and response.
• Share learning and challenges to improve program quality and outreach.

Requirements

• Must be a qualified lawyer with valid proof of legal education and registration to practice in Nigeria.
• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B or equivalent).
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in legal assistance, civil documentation, or community protection programming.
• Understanding of the Nigerian legal system, especially in relation to HLP rights and identification processes.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Fluency in English and local languages (e.g., Hausa, Marghi, Fulfulde) is an asset.
• Ability to work with diverse populations in rural or conflict-affected areas.
• Willingness to work in rural communities and travel between Michika and Madagali.
• Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel) is preferred.
