    Lead Physiologist (Cardiology)

    Job Purpose

    • The Lead Physiologist (Cardiology) will be responsible for providing expert clinical leadership and strategic oversight for non-invasive cardiac diagnostics, reporting directly to the Clinical Director of Cardiovascular Services.
    • The role holder will be responsible for the accurate acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of physiological cardiac investigations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care.
    • This includes supervising the cardiac physiology team, ensuring strict compliance with equipment, infection control, and quality standards, and driving innovation in advanced cardiac imaging and stress testing protocols.

    Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
    Clinical Care and Leadership:

    • Provide leadership in the explanation of physiological test procedures and diagnostic results to patients and their families.
    • Assume responsibility for approving physiological reports, patient follow-up recommendations, and technical documentation.
    • Drive collaboration with cardiologists, the Clinical Director of Cardiovascular Services, and other colleagues to deliver a high-quality, timely service and to work towards meeting the hospital's and departmental objectives.
    • Deliver leadership and training for staff in relation to cardiac physiological testing and non-invasive diagnostics.
    • Clearly communicate the risks and benefits associated with any physiological test or stress procedure and how they would benefit the patient.

    Strategic Development:

    • Participate in clinical research to develop new cardiac physiological techniques for diagnosing and managing cardiovascular disease.
    • Assist in the review of current policies and procedures relating to cardiac physiology, offering advice on innovative practices that could be implemented within the department.
    • Develop and implement strategic plans to improve patient outcomes in non-invasive cardiac diagnostics.
    • Interpret complex physiological test results, using information to provide diagnostic opinions and management options to cardiologists and other healthcare professionals.
    • Educate patients on how to prepare for any physiological procedures to be carried out.

    Quality Assurance, Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure absolute compliance with national and international guidelines for cardiac physiological testing, including infection prevention and equipment safety standards.
    • Implement and monitor robust quality management systems for all cardiac physiology equipment, testing protocols, and reporting templates.
    • Oversee internal and external audit programs and accreditation processes for the cardiac physiology department.

    Innovation, Research and Development:

    • Lead the development and clinical adoption of new cardiac physiological techniques, including strain imaging, 3D echocardiography, and remote cardiac monitoring solutions.
    • Drive departmental research initiatives and contribute to scholarly publications in the field of cardiac physiology and imaging.
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing through teaching and training for medical staff, physiologist trainees, and nursing teams.

    Leadership and Mentorship:

    • Provide strategic direction for the Cardiac Physiology department in alignment with AMCE's mission and vision, under the supervision of the Clinical Director of Cardiovascular Services.
    • Supervise, mentor, and train junior cardiac physiologists, echocardiographers, and cardiac technicians.
    • Conduct performance appraisals and identify professional development opportunities for team members.
    • Manage departmental workload, scheduling, and resource allocation to optimize patient flow and service efficiency.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Physiology, Clinical Physiology, or a related biomedical science field from a recognized institution.
    • Postgraduate qualification or professional certification in Cardiac Physiology is mandatory.
    • Possession of a valid clinical physiology license or registration with a recognized professional council or body.
    • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is essential.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 6 years' experience as a cardiac physiologist, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory post-certification role.
    • Proven expertise in performing and reporting a full spectrum of non-invasive cardiac tests, including stress echocardiography, long-term rhythm analysis, and exercise tolerance testing.
    • Experience in a tertiary care or international hospital setting is highly desirable.
    • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and cardiac PACS or workflow software.
    • Special skills training in advanced echocardiography techniques is highly desirable.
