    Investment Operations Manager

    Overview

    • The Investment Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end operational processes related to investment activities, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this role involves managing trade settlements, reconciliation, corporate actions, and operational risk controls.
    • The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in investment operations, middle-office functions, and process optimization, with a focus on supporting portfolio managers and enhancing operational workflows.

    Key Responsibilities
    Trade Execution & Settlement Oversight:

    • Supervise trade confirmation, matching, and settlement for fixed income, money market instruments, and other securities.
    • Ensure timely and accurate processing of primary and secondary market transactions (T-bills, commercial papers, bonds).
    • Liaise with custodians, brokers, and counterparties to resolve settlement discrepancies.
    • Monitor failed trades and implement corrective actions.

    Reconciliation & Data Integrity:

    • Perform daily/weekly cash and position reconciliations between internal records, custodians, and fund administrators.
    • Investigate and resolve breaks in holdings, NAV calculations, and transaction records.
    • Maintain accurate security master data, pricing, and corporate action records.

    Corporate Actions & Income Processing:

    • Oversee processing of dividends, coupon payments, maturities, and bond redemptions.
    • Monitor mandatory/voluntary corporate actions (e.g., bond calls, tenders) and ensure proper execution.
    • Coordinate with custodians and registrars to ensure accurate entitlement postings.

    Operational Risk & Compliance:

    • Implement and enforce operational controls to mitigate risks (e.g., trade errors, fraud, settlement fails).
    • Ensure compliance with SEC Nigeria, CBN, and internal policies (e.g., anti-money laundering, KYC).
    • Prepare reports for internal audits, regulators, and the COO.

    Process Improvement & Technology:

    • Identify inefficiencies in investment workflows and propose automation solutions (e.g., straight-through processing).
    • Collaborate with IT to enhance portfolio management systems, reconciliation tools, and reporting dashboards.
    • Document operational procedures and train staff on best practices.

    Fund Accounting & Reporting Support:

    • Assist in NAV calculation, expense accruals, and performance reporting.
    • Validate accuracy of client statements, regulatory filings, and investor reports.
    • Support the COO in month-end/quarter-end closing processes.

    Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Coordination;

    • Manage a team of operations analysts and settlement officers.
    • Work closely with portfolio managers, risk, compliance, and finance teams.
    • Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors, custodians, and technology vendors.

    Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    • Trade settlement accuracy rate (target: 99.9%).
    • Reconciliation breaks resolved within 24 hours.
    • Reduction in operational errors/process lags.
    • Compliance with regulatory reporting deadlines.

    Qualifications & Experience
    Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
    • Professional certification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIS, CFA) is a plus.

    Experience:

    • 5+ years in investment operations, middle office, or fund administration (asset management, brokerage, or custodian bank).
    • Deep knowledge of fixed income/money market instruments and their operational lifecycle.
    • Familiarity with SEC Nigeria/CBN regulations and global best practices (e.g., ISDA, SWIFT messaging).

    Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in Bloomberg, Excel (advanced), and portfolio management systems (e.g., SimCorp, Charles River).
    • Experience with SWIFT, custodian platforms (e.g., Euroclear, Clearstream), and reconciliation tools.
    • Strong understanding of CSD operations (e.g., FMDQ, NGX).

    Soft Skills:

    • Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
    • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
