Objectives of the Assignment
The overall objective of the engagement is to support the project’s inclusive education component by:
- Delivering specialized instruction to learners with and without disabilities.
- Supporting schoolteachers in adopting inclusive teaching strategies.
- Facilitating teacher training sessions on inclusive practices.
- Promoting sustainable, community-based inclusive education models.
Scope of Work / Responsibilities
The Inclusion Specialist will perform the following tasks:
Teaching & Learner Support
- Provide direct teaching to children with disabilities using sign language and/or Braille.
- Develop and implement individualized learning plans (ILPs).
- Create safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environments.
- Encourage enrollment of children with and without disabilities into target schools.
Teacher Capacity Building
- Offer mentoring to schoolteachers on inclusive education strategies.
- Lead monthly training sessions on communication, management, and adaptive teaching methods. c. Collaboration & Reporting
- Work with project teams, community leaders, and education stakeholders.
- Support community awareness and document activities and lessons learned.
Expected Deliverables
- Individualized learning plans for learners with disabilities.
- Monthly training/orientation sessions for teachers.
- Monthly activity and progress reports.
- Recommendations to improve inclusive learning practices.
- Documentation of case studies and success stories.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- NCE, Diploma, or Degree in Special/Inclusive Education or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience teaching children with disabilities.
- Expertise in sign language and/or Braille.
- Experience in training or mentoring.
- Fluency in English, Hausa and at least one of Babur, Fulfulde, or Kanakuru.
- English language skills are an advantage.
- Must be resident or indigene of Biu, Shani, Hawul, or Kwaya Kusar.
Duration and Location
The consultancy will run from the 1st of July 2025 to June 2027 (24 months). Each Inclusion Specialist will be based within their assigned LGA.
Reporting and Supervision
The Inclusion Specialist will report directly to the WINN Inclusive Education Officer and coordinate with the Project Coordinator and local education authorities.
